Assessment and statistical modeling of the relationship between remotely sensed aerosol optical depth and PM2.5 in the eastern United States.

TL;DR: The results of a number of empirical analyses and of the development of statistical models for the use of proxy information, in particular satellite AOD, in predicting PM2.5 concentrations in the eastern United States are summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI

Increased risk of gestational diabetes mellitus in women with higher prepregnancy ambient PM2.5 exposure.

TL;DR: It is confirmed that higher exposure to PM2.5 within three months before pregnancy is significantly associated with increased risk of GDM and elevated fasting glucose levels, reflecting the importance of preconceptional environmental exposure in the development of maternal GDM.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nonparametric functional data estimation applied to ozone data: prediction and extreme value analysis.

TL;DR: Nonparametric estimators are applied to real samples of maximum ozone values obtained from several monitoring stations belonging to the Automatic Urban and Rural Network (AURN) in the UK, and the results show that nonparametrical estimators work satisfactorily, outperforming the behaviour of classical parametric estimations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Near-surface soil stabilization by enzyme-induced carbonate precipitation for fugitive dust suppression

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the suppression of fugitive dust and its effect on near-surface soil stabilization by enzyme-induced carbonate precipitation (EICP) and showed that both the shear wave velocity and the peak cone tip resistance increased almost linearly with increasing solution volume up to 7L/m2.
