TLDR
In this article, an attempt is made to derive an empirical law of bed-load transport based on recent experimental data and the results and interpretation of tests already made known in former publications of the Laboratory for Hydraulic Research and Soil Mechanics at the Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich.
Abstract
In the following paper, a brief summary is first of all given of the results and interpretation of tests already made known in former publications of the Laboratory for Hydraulic Research and Soil Mechanics at the Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich. After that, an attempt is made to derive an empirical law of bed-load transport based on recent experimental data. We desire to state expressly that by bed-load transport is meant the movement of the solid material rolling or jumping along the bed of a river; transport of matter in suspension is not included.

Effect of Seepage-Induced Nonhydrostatic Pressure Distribution on Bed-Load Transport and Bed Morphodynamics

TL;DR: In this article, a generalization of the Shields number is proposed for the case of non-hydrostatic pressure distribution produced by groundwater flow, and experiments showing the effects of vertical groundwater flow on the bed morphodynamics are presented.

Long-profile evolution of transport-limited gravel-bed rivers

TL;DR: In this paper, a power-law analytical solution and finite-difference numerical solution to long-profile evolution of a transport-limited gravel-bed river was proposed, whose functional form and parameters are grounded in theory and defined through experimental data.

Case Study: Efficiency of Slit-Check Dams in the Mountain Region of Versilia Basin

TL;DR: In this article, a field verification to evaluate the interaction between solid discharge regime and four slit-check dams built in two subcatchments of the Versilia River in Tuscany, Italy is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

A framework for the analysis of noncohesive bank erosion algorithms in morphodynamic modeling

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the performance of several non-cohesive bank erosion algorithms to be embedded into two-dimensional models for river hydro-morphodynamics on non-moving meshes.

Quantitative analogue flume-model study of river–shelf systems: principles and verification exemplified by the Late Quaternary Colorado river–delta evolution

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a quantitative approach to physical modeling of clastic sedimentary systems over geological time spans using analogue modelling since full scaling cannot be achieved within the spatial and temporal restrictions imposed by a laboratory set-up.
