TLDR
In this article, an attempt is made to derive an empirical law of bed-load transport based on recent experimental data and the results and interpretation of tests already made known in former publications of the Laboratory for Hydraulic Research and Soil Mechanics at the Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich.
Abstract
In the following paper, a brief summary is first of all given of the results and interpretation of tests already made known in former publications of the Laboratory for Hydraulic Research and Soil Mechanics at the Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich. After that, an attempt is made to derive an empirical law of bed-load transport based on recent experimental data. We desire to state expressly that by bed-load transport is meant the movement of the solid material rolling or jumping along the bed of a river; transport of matter in suspension is not included.

Modelling gravel beach dynamics with XBeach

TL;DR: In this paper, the progress made in modifying and applying the public domain XBeach code to the prediction and explanation of the observed behaviour of coarse-grained beaches in the laboratory and the field under accretive conditions is described.

Process-based model for nearshore hydrodynamics, sediment transport and morphological evolution in the surf and swash zones

TL;DR: In this paper, a nearshore hydrodynamics and sediment transport in the nearshore zone were modeled numerically taking into account turbulent unsteady flow, where the flow field was computed using the Reynolds Av-eraged Navier-Stokes equations with a k-e turbulence closure model, while the free surface was tracked using the Volume-Of-Fluid technique.

Environmental role of wetlands in headwaters

Josef Krecek, +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, Krecek et al. presented a mapping of eadwater wetlands in European headwater areas, showing the importance of grassland ecosystems in the protection of forested wetlands.

Physical context for theoretical approaches to sediment transport magnitude-frequency analysis in alluvial channels

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that through complex and threshold-driven relationships sediment transport mode, channel morphology, flow variance, and flow record length all interact to influence estimates of what flow frequencies are most responsible for transporting sediment in alluvial channels.

Oscillatory bedload transport: Data review and simple formulation

TL;DR: In this article, a review of sediment transport by oscillatory flow from 20 sources is presented, including fine sands to pebbles, both of quartz and of lightweight materials, and the transport rates in water range over seven orders of magnitude.
