Abstract
In the following paper, a brief summary is first of all given of the results and interpretation of tests already made known in former publications of the Laboratory for Hydraulic Research and Soil Mechanics at the Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich. After that, an attempt is made to derive an empirical law of bed-load transport based on recent experimental data. We desire to state expressly that by bed-load transport is meant the movement of the solid material rolling or jumping along the bed of a river; transport of matter in suspension is not included.

Effective and bankfull discharges of streams in the Yampa River basin, Colorado and Wyoming

TL;DR: In this paper, the average annual total sediment load transported by various discharges was calculated by the flow-duration, sediment-transport-curve method for 15 gaging stations in the Yampa River basin of Colorado and Wyoming.

Is the critical Shields stress for incipient sediment motion dependent on channel‐bed slope?

TL;DR: In this paper, a force-balance model was used to investigate the relationship between the critical Shields stress and the relative roughness of the sediment in laboratory flumes and natural streams.

Granular Media: Between Fluid and Solid

TL;DR: In this article, the granular solid: statics and elasticity of granular liquid and granular gases are discussed at the grain level, and the interaction between granular media, statics, elasticity and plasticity at the liquid level.

Channelized subglacial drainage over a deformable bed

TL;DR: In this paper, a model of subglacial drainage was proposed for glaciers and ice sheets moving over a deformed, deformable till, based on the plausible assumption that flow of water in a thin film at the ice-till interface is unstable to the formation of a channelized drainage system, and restricted to the case in which meltwater cannot escape through the till to an underlying aquifer.

Bed deformation in curved alluvial channels

TL;DR: In this paper, a linear analysis of the water and sediment motion for the steady state of a curved flume with fixed banks is presented, where the deformation is explained in terms of wave length and damping.
