Abstract
In the following paper, a brief summary is first of all given of the results and interpretation of tests already made known in former publications of the Laboratory for Hydraulic Research and Soil Mechanics at the Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich. After that, an attempt is made to derive an empirical law of bed-load transport based on recent experimental data. We desire to state expressly that by bed-load transport is meant the movement of the solid material rolling or jumping along the bed of a river; transport of matter in suspension is not included.

River dredging, channel dynamics and bedload transport in an incised meandering river (the River Semois, Belgium)

TL;DR: In this article, the impact of dredging and the resilience of the riverbed in the Semois basin was evaluated. But the results are limited in terms of flood prevention, due to a lack of sediment supply due to the characteristics of the basin and the frequency and magnitude of flood events.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bed material transport in the Virgin River, Utah

TL;DR: In this paper, the skin friction shear stress was calculated for the observed range of streamflows by calculating the form drag exerted on the reach-averaged flow field by all particle sizes.

Representing plants as rigid cylinders in experiments and models

TL;DR: In this paper, a comparative review of numerical simulations shows that Baptist's method that sums the contribution of bed shear stress and vegetation drag, underestimates bed erosion within sparse vegetation in real rivers and overestimates the mean flow velocity in laboratory experiments.

Modelling erosion, sediment transport and sediment yield

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a catchment scale model for modelling the high level, or emergent, properties of catchments, or producing models that can reproduce these high level properties.

Fractional dispersion equation for sediment suspension

TL;DR: In this article, a stochastic approach is proposed to simulate sediment vertical dispersion in turbulent solid-liquid flows by developing a fractional advection-diffusion equation (fADE) to characterize the dynamics of sediment suspension.
