TLDR
In this article, an attempt is made to derive an empirical law of bed-load transport based on recent experimental data and the results and interpretation of tests already made known in former publications of the Laboratory for Hydraulic Research and Soil Mechanics at the Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich.
Abstract
In the following paper, a brief summary is first of all given of the results and interpretation of tests already made known in former publications of the Laboratory for Hydraulic Research and Soil Mechanics at the Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich. After that, an attempt is made to derive an empirical law of bed-load transport based on recent experimental data. We desire to state expressly that by bed-load transport is meant the movement of the solid material rolling or jumping along the bed of a river; transport of matter in suspension is not included.

Resistance Is Not Futile: Grain Resistance Controls on Observed Critical Shields Stress Variations

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate that grain resistance varies strongly with the bed structure, which is encapsulated by the particle height above surrounding sediment (protrusion, p) and intergranular friction (φf).
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of vanes and W-weir on sediment transport in meandering channels.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied sediment transport patterns in a meandering channel with instream restoration structures (vane and W-weir) and found that the sediment sizes in the bend became slightly more coarse and more uniform in the center of the channel.

Potential impacts of sand and gravel extraction on the Hunter River, New South Wales

TL;DR: A number of investigations have been undertaken by the New South Australia Water Resources Commission to determine the regional and compound effects of large scale extractive industries on the stability of the Hunter River, New South Wales.

Anatomy and Dynamics of a Floodplain, Powder River, Montana, U.S.A.

TL;DR: In this article, centimeter-scale measurements on several Powder River floodplains provide insights into the nature of overbank depositional processes that created the floodplain during a 20-year period after a major flood in 1978.

A similarity solution for a dual moving boundary problem associated with a coastal-plain depositional system

TL;DR: In this paper, a one-dimensional model for the bedload transport of sediment in a coastal-plain depositional system, such as a delta and a continental margin, is presented.
