Statistical optics

TLDR
Development of this more comprehensive model of the behavior of light draws upon the use of tools traditionally available to the electrical engineer, such as linear system theory and the theory of stochastic processes.
Abstract
Course Description This is an advanced course in which we explore the field of Statistical Optics. Topics covered include such subjects as the statistical properties of natural (thermal) and laser light, spatial and temporal coherence, effects of partial coherence on optical imaging instruments, effects on imaging due to randomly inhomogeneous media, and a statistical treatment of the detection of light. Development of this more comprehensive model of the behavior of light draws upon the use of tools traditionally available to the electrical engineer, such as linear system theory and the theory of stochastic processes.

Rateless Codes Performance Analysis in Correlated Channel Model for GEO Free Space Optics Downlinks

TL;DR: Two different rateless codes are implemented: Luby Transform (LT), Raptor and RaptorQ, and they add a redundant coding on the source data able to recover the whole payload, despite erasure errors.

Effect of tissue structure on resolution of imaging systems

TL;DR: In this paper, the concept of the total tissue mutual coherence function (MCT) is employed to represent the change of the spatial coherence of a light beam propagating through tissues caused by both the tissue turbulence and the multiple small-angle forward scattering by large tissue components.

Experiments on networks of coupled opto-electronic oscillators and physical random number generators

TL;DR: This thesis reports work in two areas: synchronization in networks of coupled oscillators and the evaluation of physical random number generators and recommends a new paradigm: quantifying entropy generation and understanding the physical limits for harvesting entropy from sources of randomness.

The multi-spectral signal properties of multiple reference optical coherence tomography

Kai Neuhaus
TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a method to solve the problem of "uniformity" and "uncertainty" in the context of data mining, and propose a solution.
