Statistical optics
TLDR
Development of this more comprehensive model of the behavior of light draws upon the use of tools traditionally available to the electrical engineer, such as linear system theory and the theory of stochastic processes.Abstract:
Course Description This is an advanced course in which we explore the field of Statistical Optics. Topics covered include such subjects as the statistical properties of natural (thermal) and laser light, spatial and temporal coherence, effects of partial coherence on optical imaging instruments, effects on imaging due to randomly inhomogeneous media, and a statistical treatment of the detection of light. Development of this more comprehensive model of the behavior of light draws upon the use of tools traditionally available to the electrical engineer, such as linear system theory and the theory of stochastic processes.read more

Observations of microwave continuum emission from air shower plasmas
Peter Gorham,Nikolai Lehtinen,G. S. Varner,J. J. Beatty,A. Connolly,Pisin Chen,Manoel Conde,Wei Gai,C. Hast,C. L. Hebert,C. Miki,R. Konecny,J. Kowalski,Johnny S. T. Ng,John Power,Kevin Reil,L. L. Ruckman,David Saltzberg,B. T. Stokes,D. Walz +19 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated a new technique for microwave detection of cosmic-ray extensive air showers which relies on detection of expected continuum radiation in the microwave range, caused by free-electron collisions with neutrals in the tenuous plasma left after the passage of the shower.

Laser phase noise to intensity noise conversion by lowest-order group-velocity dispersion in optical fiber: exact theory.
TL;DR: The intensity spectrum after propagation formally approaches, for a large laser linewidth or a long fiber, the intensity spectrum of a thermal source having the same line shape as the laser.

Design and characterization of an undulator beamline optimized for small-angle coherent X-ray scattering at the Advanced Photon Source
Alec Sandy,Laurence Lurio,Simon G. J. Mochrie,A. Malik,G. B. Stephenson,J. F. Pelletier,Mark Sutton +6 more
TL;DR: An undulator beamline and small-angle scattering spectrometer have been implemented at the Advanced Photon Source as mentioned in this paper, which is optimized for performing smallangle widebandpass coherent X-ray scattering measurements, and has been characterized by measuring static Xray speckle patterns from isotropically disordered samples.
