Statistical optics
TLDR
Development of this more comprehensive model of the behavior of light draws upon the use of tools traditionally available to the electrical engineer, such as linear system theory and the theory of stochastic processes.Abstract:
Course Description This is an advanced course in which we explore the field of Statistical Optics. Topics covered include such subjects as the statistical properties of natural (thermal) and laser light, spatial and temporal coherence, effects of partial coherence on optical imaging instruments, effects on imaging due to randomly inhomogeneous media, and a statistical treatment of the detection of light. Development of this more comprehensive model of the behavior of light draws upon the use of tools traditionally available to the electrical engineer, such as linear system theory and the theory of stochastic processes.read more

Development of ultra-small-angle X-ray scattering–X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the development of ultra-small-angle X-ray scattering-X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (USAXS-XPCS), which is capable of probing the long-time-scale equilibrium and non-equilibrium dynamics of optically opaque materials with prominent features in a scattering vector range between those of dynamic light scattering and conventional XPCS.

A physically based, probabilistic model for ultrasonic images incorporating shape, microstructure, and system characteristics
Jason W. Trobaugh,R.M. Arthur +1 more
TL;DR: This work describes a previous physical model for image formation that incorporates the imaging system characteristics, the surface shape, and the surface microstructure and forms the basis for a data likelihood constructed as a product of Rayleigh and Gaussian density functions describing the individual image pixels.
