Statistical optics
TLDR
Development of this more comprehensive model of the behavior of light draws upon the use of tools traditionally available to the electrical engineer, such as linear system theory and the theory of stochastic processes.Abstract:
Course Description This is an advanced course in which we explore the field of Statistical Optics. Topics covered include such subjects as the statistical properties of natural (thermal) and laser light, spatial and temporal coherence, effects of partial coherence on optical imaging instruments, effects on imaging due to randomly inhomogeneous media, and a statistical treatment of the detection of light. Development of this more comprehensive model of the behavior of light draws upon the use of tools traditionally available to the electrical engineer, such as linear system theory and the theory of stochastic processes.read more

Generation and spatio-temporal evolution of polarization speckle
TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide an explanation of the cause of polarization speckle by vector random walks in the complex plane for two components of the vectorial electric fields, and a relationship between the statistical properties of the scattered light at the scattering surface and the micro-structure of the anisotropic media has been explored to understand the underlying mechanism.

Shift-Invariant Image Reconstruction of Speckle-Degraded Images Using Bispectrum Estimation
TL;DR: In this paper, a homomorphic transformation is used to transform the speckled images to a uniform background to simulate image motion and/or platform jitter, and then the resulting image can be uniquely reconstructed using bispectral estimation.

General relation between spatial coherence and absorption
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors extend a general coherence-absorption relation valid at equilibrium to two non-equilibrium cases: luminescent bodies and anisothermal bodies, and use this relation to analyse the differences between the isothermal and isothermal cases.

Method for measuring high order dispersion in optical fibers
TL;DR: In this article, a four-wave-mixing-based method for measuring the ratio between the third and the fourth-order dispersion coefficients with error of less than 3% in dispersion shifted and non-zero dispersion shift fibers is presented.

Local oscillator uncorrelated phase noise analysis for millimeter-wave passive imager bhu-2d frequency synthesizer
TL;DR: In this article, a nontrivial local oscillator uncorrelated phase noise analysis is proposed for frequency synthesizer of a SAIR imager BHU-2D designed for concealed weapon detections on human bodies with high imaging rates.

Survey on Free Space Optical Communication: A Communication Theory Perspective
TL;DR: An up-to-date survey on FSO communication systems is presented, describing FSO channel models and transmitter/receiver structures and details on information theoretical limits of FSO channels and algorithmic-level system design research activities to approach these limits are provided.
