Statistical optics
TLDR
Development of this more comprehensive model of the behavior of light draws upon the use of tools traditionally available to the electrical engineer, such as linear system theory and the theory of stochastic processes.Abstract:
Course Description This is an advanced course in which we explore the field of Statistical Optics. Topics covered include such subjects as the statistical properties of natural (thermal) and laser light, spatial and temporal coherence, effects of partial coherence on optical imaging instruments, effects on imaging due to randomly inhomogeneous media, and a statistical treatment of the detection of light. Development of this more comprehensive model of the behavior of light draws upon the use of tools traditionally available to the electrical engineer, such as linear system theory and the theory of stochastic processes.read more

Statistical Optics approach to the design of beamlines for Synchrotron Radiation
TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the image formation problem for undulator radiation through an optical system, accounting for the influence of the electron beam emittance, and proposed a technique to explicitly calculate the cross-spectral density of an undulator source.
Increasing the Corrected Field of View of an Adaptive Optical Telescope
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used multiple wavefront sensor measurements to estimate the three-dimensional turbulence structure and showed that multiple-DM, multiple-guide-star systems can significantly increase the compensated FOV relative to single-DM and single-guide star systems.
Coherent X-ray diffractive imaging of biological samples in 2D and 3D with synchrotron and XFEL radiation
TL;DR: In this paper, the Max Rose Coherent X-ray diffractive imaging (CXDI) technique was used for 3D image reconstruction of a virus of 70 nm size at LCLS XFEL sources.
Modeling Anisoplanatic Effects from Atmospheric Turbulence across Slanted Optical Paths in Imagery
TL;DR: Power et al. as mentioned in this paper presented a model for simulating turbulent effects in imagery using a technique similar to Bos and Roggemann's model, which can support efforts in developing innovative turbulence mitigation techniques and replacing expensive flight tests.
