Statistical optics
TLDR
Development of this more comprehensive model of the behavior of light draws upon the use of tools traditionally available to the electrical engineer, such as linear system theory and the theory of stochastic processes.Abstract:
Course Description This is an advanced course in which we explore the field of Statistical Optics. Topics covered include such subjects as the statistical properties of natural (thermal) and laser light, spatial and temporal coherence, effects of partial coherence on optical imaging instruments, effects on imaging due to randomly inhomogeneous media, and a statistical treatment of the detection of light. Development of this more comprehensive model of the behavior of light draws upon the use of tools traditionally available to the electrical engineer, such as linear system theory and the theory of stochastic processes.read more

Plasmon scattering from holes: from single hole scattering to Young's experiment.
Tao Wang,Elizabeth Boer-Duchemin,Geneviève Comtet,E Le Moal,Gérald Dujardin,Aurélien Drezet,Serge Huant +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the scattering of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) into photons at holes and showed that the larger the hole diameter, the more directional the scattered radiation, which is confirmed by a model where the hole is considered as a distribution of horizontal dipoles whose relative amplitudes, directions and phases depend linearly on the local SPP electric field.

A discrete region competition approach incorporating weak edge enhancement for ultrasound image segmentation
TL;DR: To prevent regions from leaking out of the desired area across weak edges, edges located on the slowly varying slope are enhanced according to their position on the slope and the length of the slope.

Three-dimensional FLASH laser radar range estimation via blind deconvolution
TL;DR: The range image mathematical model is defined as a 2D convolution between the system spatial impulse response and the object (target or remote scene) at a particular point in time and improved range estimation is possible by object restoration from the data observations.

Angular vibrations of cryogenically cooled double-crystal monochromators.
TL;DR: It is shown that the double-crystal monochromator vibrations affect not only the image size but also the image position along the optical axis.

Choosing objective functions for inverse lithography patterning
Jue Chin Yu,Peichen Yu +1 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that a cost function composed of a dominant resist-image component and a minor aerial-image or image-contrast component can carry out a good mask correction and contour targets when using inverse lithography patterning.
