Statistical optics
TLDR
Development of this more comprehensive model of the behavior of light draws upon the use of tools traditionally available to the electrical engineer, such as linear system theory and the theory of stochastic processes.Abstract:
Course Description This is an advanced course in which we explore the field of Statistical Optics. Topics covered include such subjects as the statistical properties of natural (thermal) and laser light, spatial and temporal coherence, effects of partial coherence on optical imaging instruments, effects on imaging due to randomly inhomogeneous media, and a statistical treatment of the detection of light. Development of this more comprehensive model of the behavior of light draws upon the use of tools traditionally available to the electrical engineer, such as linear system theory and the theory of stochastic processes.read more

Initialization for robust inverse synthesis of phase-shifting masks in optical projection lithography.
TL;DR: This paper focuses on using pixel-based algorithms to design alternating phase-shifting masks with minimally distorted output, with the goal that the patterns generated should have high contrast and low dose sensitivity.

Multiple scattering limit in optical microscopy
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors derived the single-to-multiple scattering ratio in reflection and deduced the multiple scattering limit for various microscopic imaging techniques such as confocal microscopy, optical coherence tomography and related methods.

Improved BER based on intensity noise alleviation using developed detection technique for incoherent SAC-OCDMA systems
TL;DR: The analytical results reveal that the modified-AND detection offer best bit-error rate (BER) performance and enables MQC code to support higher transmission rate up to 1.25 Gb/s compared to conventional AND detection.

Gradient-based fast source mask optimization (SMO)
Jue Chin Yu,Peichen Yu +1 more
TL;DR: This paper proposes a gradient based SMO algorithm where the SO and MO are two sequential steps due to their different image formation mechanism and shows that IL patterns produced by SMO have better pattern fidelity and image contrast than MO only patterns.

Coarse WDM/CDM/TDM concept for optical packet transmission in metropolitan and access networks supporting 400 channels at 2.5 Gb/s peak rate
Thomas Pfeiffer,J. Kissing,Jorg-Peter Elbers,B. Deppisch,M. Witte,Harald Schmuck,Edgar Voges +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed and analyzed a network based on hybrid optical multiplexing techniques including wavelength, code, and time division multiplexers. And applied to optical packet transmission, the approach enables several 100 all-optical channels between end users and head end with average bit rates up to 100 Mb/s per channel while keeping the installation and maintenance cost at a minimum.
