TLDR
The synthesis of the complex-type oligosaccharide unit of the vesicular stomatitis virus G protein is initiated by the en bloc transfer of a high molecular weight oligosACcharide from a lipid carrier to the nascent polypeptide.

Glucose starvation leads in rat hepatoma cells to partially N-glycosylated glycoproteins including alpha 1-acid glycoproteins. Identification by endoglycolytic digestions in polyacrylamide gels.

TL;DR: Under conditions of limiting glycosylation, it is shown that non- or partially N-glycosylated proteins do not acquire additional oligosaccharide units after restoration of glucose although the proteins can undergo secondary modification and, in the case of the secretory proteins, can be exported.
Journal ArticleDOI

The biosynthesis of oligosaccharide-lipids. Partial purification and characterization of mannosyltransferase II.

TL;DR: The extent of purification of the enzyme and its resistance to inhibition by amphomycin strongly suggest that the enzyme catalyzes direct transfer from nucleotide-sugar to the oligosaccharide-lipid acceptor.

[39] Inhibition of the dolichol pathway of protein glycosylation

TL;DR: This chapter indicates how to inhibit glycosylation in vivo and in vitro, discusses the properties of the various inhibitors, and illustrates how to check whether inhibition of glycosolation is really achieved under the chosen experimental conditions.

The high mannose oligosaccharides of Dictyostelium discoideum glycoproteins contain a novel intersecting N-acetylglucosamine residue.

TL;DR: Using a variety of techniques, including NMR spectroscopy and fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry, it is found that many of these oligosaccharides also contain an N-acetylglucosamine residue linked beta 1-4 to the mannose residue linked alpha 1-6 to the beta-linked core mannoses.

Characterization of the N-linked oligosaccharides in glycoproteins synthesized by microfilariae of Dirofilaria immitis.

TL;DR: The results demonstrate that glycoproteins synthesized by microfilariae of D. immitis have unusual carbohydrate moieties and may lead to a better understanding of the specific roles of glycoprotein oligosaccharides in host-parasite interactions.

Detection of sugars on paper chromatograms.

TL;DR: Modifications are introduced, based on a test given by Feigl for reducing sugars, which eliminate the heating step, and in which the reagents are applied in organic solvents, thus removing the danger of migration of the sugar spots.

Structural studies of two ovalbumin glycopeptides in relation to the endo-beta-N-acetylglucosaminidase specificity.

TL;DR: The presence of the unsubstituted alpha-mannosyl residue linked at the C-3 position of the terminal mannose of Manbeta1 leads to 4 GlcNAcAsn core must be essential for the action of the enzyme.
