Defining the Anthropocene

TL;DR: The evidence suggests that of the various proposed dates two do appear to conform to the criteria to mark the beginning of the Anthropocene: 1610 and 1964.
Journal ArticleDOI

Vegetation feedback causes delayed ecosystem response to East Asian Summer Monsoon Rainfall during the Holocene.

TL;DR: In this article, a set of transient earth system model simulations with proxy records was used to reconcile different evolution behaviors of monsoon proxy records; it sheds light on the driving mechanism of the monsoon evolution and monsoon-ecosystem feedback over northern China, with implications to climate changes in other high climate sensitivity regions over the globe.

Human activities have reduced plant diversity in eastern China over the last two millennia

TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigate temporal changes in pollen composition, analogue quality, and pollen diversity during the Holocene and find that the proportion of fossil pollen spectra with good modern analogues increases from 50% to 80% during the last 2 millennia, indicating an enhanced intensity of anthropogenic disturbance on vegetation.

Pediastrum (Chlorophyceae) assemblages in surface lake sediments in China and western Mongolia and their environmental significance

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the occurrence of Pediastrum in 26 natural lakes and 17 reservoirs, with varying hydro-chemical and climatic gradients, in China and western Mongolia.

Late Holocene land use evolution and vegetation response to climate change in the watershed of Xingyun Lake, SW China

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors used pollen and other multi-proxy analyses of the sediments from Xingyun Lake in central Yunnan Plateau to reconstruct the history of land use and ecosystem dynamics during the last 3,200 years.

CANOCO Reference Manual and CanoDraw for Windows User's Guide: Software for Canonical Community Ordination (version 4.5)

TL;DR: Canoco as discussed by the authors is a software package for multivariate data analysis, with an emphasis on dimesional reduction (ordination), regression analysis, and the combination of the two, constrained ordination.

Evidence for general instability of past climate from a 250-kyr ice-core record

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a detailed stable isotope record for the full length of the Greenland Ice-core Project Summit ice core, extending over the past 250 kyr according to a calculated timescale, and find that climate instability was not confined to the last glaciation, but appears also have been marked during the last interglacial (as explored more fully in a companion paper), and during the previous Saale-Holstein glacial cycle.

A long-term numerical solution for the insolation quantities of the Earth

TL;DR: In this article, a new solution for the astronomical computation of the insolation quantities on Earth spanning from −250 m to 250 m was presented, where the most regular components of the orbital solution could still be used over a much longer time span, which is why they provided here the solution over 250 m.
