TL;DR: The Stardust spacecraft collected thousands of particles from comet 81P/Wild 2 and returned them to Earth for laboratory study, and preliminary examination shows that the nonvolatile portion of the comet is an unequilibrated assortment of materials that have both presolar and solar system origin.
Journal ArticleDOI
The origins and concentrations of water, carbon, nitrogen and noble gases on Earth
TL;DR: For example, Pujol et al. as mentioned in this paper proposed that the Earth is not as volatile-poor as previously thought, and showed that it contains up to 2 (± 1) % contribution of carbonaceous chondrite (CI-CM) to a dry proto-Earth.
Journal ArticleDOI
Origin of carbon in fumarolic gas from island arcs
Yuji Sano,Bernard Marty +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented the first quantitative estimates of the upper mantle, sediment and limestone including slab components in CO2 of volcanic and hydrothermal fluids from subduction zones.
Journal ArticleDOI
Noble gases and volatile recycling at subduction zones
TL;DR: Marty and Jambon as discussed by the authors derived an estimate of the CO2 flux from the (upper) mantle by combining estimates of the 3He flux at mid-ocean ridges (MOR) with measurements of CO2/3He ratio in oceanic basalts.
Journal ArticleDOI
C3He in volatile fluxes from the solid Earth: implications for carbon geodynamics
Bernard Marty,Albert Jambon +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the C3He ratios of the relevant reservoirs are considered and it is shown that this ratio is unfractionated during magma outgassing, a best estimate being 2 × 109.
