Journal ArticleDOI
Thrombocytopenia in medical-surgical critically ill patients: prevalence, incidence, and risk factors.
Mark Crowther,Deborah J. Cook,Deborah J. Cook,Maureen O. Meade,Maureen O. Meade,Lauren Griffith,Lauren Griffith,Gordon H. Guyatt,Gordon H. Guyatt,Donald M. Arnold,Donald M. Arnold,Christian Rabbat,Christian Rabbat,William Geerts,William Geerts,Theodore E. Warkentin,Theodore E. Warkentin +16 more
TL;DR: Patients who developed thrombocytopenia in the intensive care unit (ICU) were more likely to die, required longer duration of mechanical ventilation, and were morelikely to require blood product transfusion.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of drug law enforcement on drug market violence: a systematic review.
TL;DR: The findings suggest that increasing drug law enforcement is unlikely to reduce drug market violence and that alternative regulatory models will be required if drug supply and drug market Violence are to be meaningfully reduced.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quality of life in stage II breast cancer: an instrument for clinical trials.
Mark Levine,Gordon H. Guyatt,Michael Gent,S De Pauw,M D Goodyear,William Hryniuk,Andrew Arnold,B. Findlay,J. Skillings,Vivien H.C. Bramwell +9 more
TL;DR: A comparison of the quality-of-life outcomes of patients in the two treatment groups in the period beyond 3 months after initiation of treatment, revealed that the BCQ and Karnofsky were the only instruments able to demonstrate differences between the groups (P less than .0001).
Journal ArticleDOI
Fluid Resuscitation in Sepsis: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-analysis
Bram Rochwerg,Waleed Alhazzani,Anees Sindi,Diane Heels-Ansdell,Lehana Thabane,Alison Fox-Robichaud,Lawrence Mbuagbaw,Wojciech Szczeklik,Fayez Alshamsi,Sultan Altayyar,Wang-Chun Ip,Guowei Li,Michael Wang,Anna Włudarczyk,Qi Zhou,Gordon H. Guyatt,Deborah J. Cook,Roman Jaeschke,Djillali Annane,Fluids in Sepsis +19 more
TL;DR: It is reported that resuscitation with an albumin-containing solution in patients with sepsis may decrease mortality compared with solutions containing no albumin, and a recent large pragmatic trial comparing colloids with crystalloids suggested a 90-day mortality benefit with colloids.
Journal ArticleDOI
Does treatment with L-thyroxine influence health status in middle-aged and older adults with subclinical hypothyroidism?
Roman Jaeschke,Gordon H. Guyatt,Hertzel C. Gerstein,Christopher Patterson,William Molloy,Deborah J. Cook,Deborah J. Cook,Sandra Harper,Lauren Griffith,Ramona M. Carbotte +9 more
TL;DR: It may not be harmful to follow biochemical and clinical status even in the presence of nonspecific symptoms potentially associated with hypothyroidism, and no measure of symptoms or HRQL either showed clinically important trends in favor of treatment, or approached conventional levels of statistical significance.
