Journal ArticleDOI
Randomized trials published in higher vs. lower impact journals differ in design, conduct, and analysis
Malgorzata M Bala,Elie A. Akl,Elie A. Akl,Elie A. Akl,Xin Sun,Xin Sun,Dirk Bassler,Dominik Mertz,Filip Mejza,Per Olav Vandvik,Germán Málaga,Bradley C. Johnston,Philipp Dahm,Pablo Alonso-Coello,Natalia Diaz-Granados,Sadeesh Srinathan,Basil Hassouneh,Matthias Briel,Matthias Briel,Jason W. Busse,John J. You,Stephen D. Walter,Douglas G. Altman,Gordon H. Guyatt +23 more
TL;DR: RCTs published in higher impact journals were more likely to report methodological safeguards against bias and patient-important outcomes than those published in lower impact journals, however, sufficient limitations remain such that publication in a higher impact journal does not ensure low risk of bias.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk of sexual transmission of human immunodeficiency virus with antiretroviral therapy, suppressed viral load and condom use: a systematic review
Jennifer LeMessurier,Gregory Traversy,Olivia Varsaneux,Makenzie Weekes,Marc T. Avey,Oscar Niragira,Robert Gervais,Gordon H. Guyatt,Rachel Rodin +8 more
TL;DR: There is a negligible risk of sexual transmission of HIV when an HIV-positive sex partner adheres to antiretroviral therapy and maintains a suppressed viral load of less than 200 copies/mL measured every 4 to 6 months.

I. Systematic Reviews of Randomized Trials in Osteoporosis: Introduction and Methodology
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present the results of meta-analyses of the impact of a number of therapies for postmenopausal osteoporosis on bone density and fractures, including bisphosphonates, alendronate and risedronate; calcium alone and in combination with vitamin D; hormone replacement therapy (HRT); raloxifene; and calcitonin.
Journal ArticleDOI
Survey of interventions for the prevention and treatment of acute respiratory distress syndrome
Maureen O. Meade,Michael J. Jacka,Deborah J. Cook,Peter Dodek,Lauren Griffith,Gordon H. Guyatt +5 more
TL;DR: Wide variation in the management of acute respiratory distress syndrome appears related to limited awareness of relevant research, conflicting interpretations of research findings, and adherence to varying local practice patterns.
Journal ArticleDOI
Current practice in the intramedullary nailing of tibial shaft fractures: an international survey.
Mohit Bhandari,Gordon H. Guyatt,Paul Tornetta,Marc F. Swiontkowski,Beate Hanson,Sheila Sprague,Amena Syed,Emil H. Schemitsch +7 more
TL;DR: There remains considerable variability in the surgical technique of intramedullary nailing, the duration of antibiotic use, and the timing of wound closure in open tibial fracture care.
