Journal ArticleDOI
A randomized trial of opinion leader endorsement in a survey of orthopaedic surgeons: Effect on primary response rates
Mohit Bhandari,Philip J. Devereaux,Marc F. Swiontkowski,Emil H. Schemitsch,Ketan Shankardass,Sheila Sprague,Gordon H. Guyatt +6 more
TL;DR: The addition of a letter listing expert surgeons who endorse the survey lead to significantly lower primary response rates, and those interested in influencing physician responses cannot always assume a positive effect from endorsement by opinion leaders.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative Effectiveness of Protective Ventilation Strategies for Moderate and Severe Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. A Network Meta-Analysis
Sachin Sud,Sachin Sud,Jan O. Friedrich,Neill K. J. Adhikari,Neill K. J. Adhikari,Eddy Fan,Niall D. Ferguson,Gordon H. Guyatt,Maureen O. Meade +8 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that combining low Vt with prone ventilation is associated with the greatest reduction in mortality for critically ill adults with moderate to severe ARDS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk of stroke and other adverse outcomes in patients with perioperative atrial fibrillation 1 year after non-cardiac surgery
David Conen,David Conen,Pablo Alonso-Coello,Pablo Alonso-Coello,James D. Douketis,Matthew T. V. Chan,Andrea Kurz,Alben Sigamani,Joel L. Dresser,Jesús Álvarez-García,Thomas Schricker,Philip M. Jones,Leanne W Drummond,Kumar Balasubramanian,Salim Yusuf,Salim Yusuf,Philip J. Devereaux,Philip J. Devereaux +28 more
TL;DR: Patients with POAF have a significantly increased risk of stroke, MI, and death at 1 year, and intervention studies are needed to evaluate risk reduction strategies in this high-risk population.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Caudal Block as Compared to Noncaudal Regional Techniques for Inguinal Surgeries in Children
TL;DR: Caudal analgesia was found to be better in both early and late periods, but with a significant risk of motor block and urinary retention, and there are limited studies to demonstrate that the technical superiority using ultrasound translates into better clinical success with the inguinal nerve blocks.
