Journal ArticleDOI

Sequence and comparative analysis of the chicken genome provide unique perspectives on vertebrate evolution

LaDeana W. Hillier, +174 more
- 09 Dec 2004 -
TL;DR: A draft genome sequence of the red jungle fowl, Gallus gallus, provides a new perspective on vertebrate genome evolution, while also improving the annotation of mammalian genomes.
Journal ArticleDOI

A genetic variation map for chicken with 2.8 million single-nucleotide polymorphisms

Gane Ka-Shu Wong, +126 more
- 09 Dec 2004 -
TL;DR: This map is based on a comparison of the sequences of three domestic chicken breeds with that of their wild ancestor, red jungle fowl, and indicates that at least 90% of the variant sites are true SNPs, and at least 70% are common SNPs that segregate in many domestic breeds.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ancient DNA Reveals Lack of Continuity between Neolithic Hunter-Gatherers and Contemporary Scandinavians

TL;DR: Through analysis of DNA extracted from ancient Scandinavian human remains, it is shown that people of the Pitted Ware culture were not the direct ancestors of modern Scandinavians but are more closely related to contemporary populations of the eastern Baltic region.
Journal ArticleDOI

Insertion-deletion polymorphisms (indels) as genetic markers in natural populations

TL;DR: It is suggested that indels will come to form an important source of genetic markers, easy and cheap to genotype, for studies of natural populations, showing their utility even in a population with low genetic diversity.
