TL;DR: The sequence and annotation of the 366-megabase Glossina mors Titans morsitans genome are described, providing a foundation for research into trypanosomiasis prevention and yield important insights with broad implications for multiple aspects of tsetse biology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mixed infections of trypanosomes in tsetse and pigs and their epidemiological significance in a sleeping sickness focus of Côte d'Ivoire.
Vincent Jamonneau,Sophie Ravel,Mathurin Koffi,Dramane Kaba,D. G. Zeze,Louis N’Dri,Bocar Sané,Bamoro Coulibaly,Gérard Cuny,Philippe Solano +9 more
TL;DR: Differences in infection rates and in trypanosome genotypes according to the host might indicate that the pig may not be an active animal reservoir for humans in this focus of Côte d'Ivoire.
Journal ArticleDOI
APOL1 renal risk variants have contrasting resistance and susceptibility associations with African trypanosomiasis
Anneli Cooper,Hamidou Ilboudo,V Pius Alibu,V Pius Alibu,Sophie Ravel,John Enyaru,John Enyaru,William Weir,Harry Noyes,Harry Noyes,Harry Noyes,Paul Capewell,Mamadou Camara,Jacqueline Milet,Vincent Jamonneau,Vincent Jamonneau,Oumou Camara,Enock Matovu,Bruno Bucheton,Bruno Bucheton,Annette MacLeod,Annette MacLeod +21 more
TL;DR: Both forms of human African trypanosomiasis are implicate in the selection and persistence of otherwise detrimental APOL1 kidney disease variants.
Journal ArticleDOI
Population Structuring of Glossina palpalis gambiensis (Diptera: Glossinidae) According to Landscape Fragmentation in the Mouhoun River, Burkina Faso
Jérémy Bouyer,Sophie Ravel,Jean-Pierre Dujardin,Thierry De Meeûs,Laurence Vial,Sophie Thevenon,Laure Guerrini,Issa Sidibé,Philippe Solano +8 more
TL;DR: Wing geometry revealed significant centroid size and shape differences between populations, especially between the two most distant populations, and there was a positive correlation in females between metric distances (wing shape differences) and geographic distances that might be attributed to the cline of environmental conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vector Competence of Glossina palpalis gambiensis for Trypanosoma brucei s.l. and Genetic Diversity of the Symbiont Sodalis glossinidius
Anne Geiger,Sophie Ravel,Thierry Mateille,Jérome Janelle,Delphine Patrel,Gérard Cuny,Roger Frutos +6 more
TL;DR: Investigation of whether vector competence for a given trypanosome species could be linked to the presence of specific genotypes of S. glossinidius found variations in Glossina vector competence in the wild could lead to novel risk management strategies.
