Journal ArticleDOI
Functional characterization of FABP3, 5 and 7 gene variants identified in schizophrenia and autism spectrum disorder and mouse behavioral studies
Chie Shimamoto,Tetsuo Ohnishi,Motoko Maekawa,Akiko Watanabe,Hisako Ohba,Ryoichi Arai,Yoshimi Iwayama,Yasuko Hisano,Tomoko Toyota,Manabu Toyoshima,Katsuaki Suzuki,Yukihiko Shirayama,Kazuhiko Nakamura,Norio Mori,Yuji Owada,Tetsuyuki Kobayashi,Takeo Yoshikawa +16 more
TL;DR: In conclusion, disturbances in brain-expressed FABPs could represent an underlying disease mechanism in a proportion of schizophrenia and ASD sufferers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Distinguishable haplotype blocks in the HTR3A and HTR3B region in the Japanese reveal evidence of association of HTR3B with female major depression.
Kazuo Yamada,Eiji Hattori,Yoshimi Iwayama,Tetsuo Ohnishi,Hisako Ohba,Tomoko Toyota,Hitomi Takao,Yoshio Minabe,Noriaki Nakatani,Teruhiko Higuchi,Sevilla D. Detera-Wadleigh,Takeo Yoshikawa +11 more
TL;DR: The results suggest an important role for HTR3B in major depression in women and raise the possibility that previously proposed disease-associated SNPs in the H TR3A/B region in Caucasians are in linkage disequilibrium with haplotype block 2 of HTR 3B in the Japanese.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic and expression analyses reveal elevated expression of syntaxin 1A (STX1A) in high functioning autism
Kazuhiko Nakamura,Ayyappan Anitha,Kazuo Yamada,Masatsugu Tsujii,Masatsugu Tsujii,Yoshimi Iwayama,Eiji Hattori,Tomoko Toyota,Shiro Suda,Noriyoshi Takei,Yasuhide Iwata,Katsuaki Suzuki,Hideo Matsuzaki,Masayoshi Kawai,Yoshimoto Sekine,Kenji J. Tsuchiya,Genichi Sugihara,Yasuomi Ouchi,Toshiro Sugiyama,Takeo Yoshikawa,Norio Mori +20 more
TL;DR: During early childhood, there is a period of high brain serotonin synthesis that is disrupted in autistic children; STX1A might influence the serotonergic system during this stage of neurodevelopment, as implied by the association with ADI-R_D.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reduced sensitivity to glucocorticoid feedback and reduced glucocorticoid receptor mRNA expression in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle
Margaret Altemus,Laura Redwine,Yung-Mei Leong,Takeo Yoshikawa,Rachel Yehuda,Savilla Detera-Wadleigh,Dennis L. Murphy +6 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that glucocorticoid feedback regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis is reduced in the mid-luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, which may play a role in generation of common premenstrual symptoms of irritability and dysphoria.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-wide Association Study of Autism Spectrum Disorder in the East Asian Populations.
Xiaoxi Liu,Takafumi Shimada,Takeshi Otowa,Yu-Yu Wu,Yoshiya Kawamura,Mamoru Tochigi,Yasuhide Iwata,Tadashi Umekage,Tomoko Toyota,Motoko Maekawa,Yoshimi Iwayama,Katsuaki Suzuki,Chihiro Kakiuchi,Hitoshi Kuwabara,Yukiko Kano,Hisami Nishida,Toshiro Sugiyama,Nobumasa Kato,Chia-Hsiang Chen,Chia-Hsiang Chen,Norio Mori,Kazuo Yamada,Takeo Yoshikawa,Kiyoto Kasai,Katsushi Tokunaga,Tsukasa Sasaki,Susan Shur-Fen Gau +26 more
TL;DR: The results provide independent support to known ASD candidate genes and highlight a number of novel genes warranted to be further investigated in a larger sample set in an effort to improve the understanding of the genetic basis of ASD.
