TL;DR: In this article, an optical transceiver with a plurality of optical subassemblies and a printed circuit board is described, and the transceiver module includes lead frame connectors for connecting the optical sub-assemblies to the printed circuit boards.
Abstract: An optical transceiver module having a plurality of optical subassemblies and a printed circuit board is disclosed. The transceiver module includes lead frame connectors for connecting the optical subassemblies to the printed circuit board. The lead frame connectors include a stamped and bent conductive lead structure that is encased in an insert injection molded plastic casing. The plastic casing provides electrical insulation for the conductors in the lead frame as well as mechanical support for the finished component. The lead frame connectors connect to the leads associated with the optical subassemblies and are surface mounted onto the printed circuit board to establish connectivity between the optical subassembly and the printed circuit board. The lead frame assemblies are generally more reliable and less expensive than using flexible printed circuit board structures to establish electrical connectivity between optical subassemblies and transceiver printed circuit boards.

TL;DR: In this article, an optical package includes a substrate that supports a laser, and a beam steering device supported by the substrate and arranged so as to receive the optical signal from the laser along the first path.
Abstract: In one example configuration, an optical package includes a substrate that supports a laser. The laser is configured for electrical communication with circuitry disposed on the substrate, and the laser is arranged to emit an optical signal along a first path. The optical package also includes a beam steering device supported by the substrate and arranged so as to receive the optical signal from the laser along the first path. The beam steering device is configured such that the optical signal is output from the beam steering device along a second path. A group of electronic leads is provided that electronically communicates with the circuitry on the substrate. In this example, the group includes a set of modulation leads in electrical, communication with the laser, and a set of bias leads in electrical communication with the laser. The set of bias leads is electrically isolated from the set of modulation leads.

TL;DR: In this paper, the master component monitors the data wire for a predetermined number of consecutive bits having a particular binary value, which is considered to be the preamble, and then asserts a frame of a two-wire interface on the wire.
Abstract: A two-wire interface in which upon determining that an operation is to be performed on a slave component, the master component monitors the data wire for a predetermined number of consecutive bits having a particular binary value. Upon detection such a sequence, the master component asserts a frame of a two-wire interface on the data wire. This detected predetermined number of consecutive bits will be considered to be the preamble. During at least some of the preamble phase, the master component is not asserting anything on the data wire. Instead, the data wire is pulled high (or low) by a weak pull-up (or pull-down) resistor. Furthermore, the frame is designed so that there are bits having a guaranteed binary value that is opposite what would be expected in the preamble, to thereby facilitate synchronization.

TL;DR: In this paper, an ion-implanted region within the upper Bragg reflector (DBR) and a dielectric structure is formed over the upper DBR and surrounding the optical guide.
Abstract: A vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) includes independently definable current and optical confinement structures that provide unique forms of drive current and transverse mode confinement, respectively. The optical guide may be formed from an upper distributed Bragg reflector (DBR), as an etched mesa structure and/or as an intracavity optical guide. The current guide may include an ion-implanted region within the upper DBR. A dielectric structure is formed over the upper DBR and surrounds the optical guide.

TL;DR: In this article, a single mode high power vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) using photonic crystals is proposed, where a photonic crystal is included in at least one mirror layer of a VCSEL.
Abstract: A single mode high power vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) using photonic crystals. A photonic crystal is included in at least one mirror layer of a VCSEL. The reflectivity of the photonic crystal is dependent on the wavelength and incident angle of the photons. The photonic crystal can be formed such that the VCSEL lases at a single mode. Because a single mode is generated, the aperture of the VCSEL can be enlarged to increase the power that is generated by the VCSEL for that mode. The photonic crystal can be used with/without DBR layers. The photonic crystal, in one example, forms an external cavity.
