11 Jul 2005TL;DR: In this paper, a single-layer flexible circuit may include a top flexible substrate, a bottom flexible substrate and a conductive layer disposed there between, where signal traces and ground traces can be located in the conductive layers.
Abstract: One example of a single-layer flexible circuit may include a top flexible substrate, a bottom flexible substrate, and a conductive layer disposed therebetween. Signal traces and ground traces can be located in the conductive layer.

TL;DR: This paper explores the feasibility of single-channel 50G and 100G transmission using 25G VCSEL technology and presents a novel modulation technique which offers improved performance over conventional discrete multitone with little additional computational complexity.
Abstract: This paper explores the feasibility of single-channel 50G and 100G transmission using 25G VCSEL technology. We show through experiments the practicality of 50G transmission through 100 m of OM3 multi-mode fiber. To address the question of whether single-channel 100G transmission is feasible, we show through simulation the needed reduction in relative intensity noise of 25G VCSELs and present a novel modulation technique which offers improved performance over conventional discrete multitone with little additional computational complexity.

31 Oct 2008TL;DR: In this paper, an active cable that is configured to communicate over much of its length using one or more optical fibers, and that includes an integrated electrical connector at least one end is presented.
Abstract: An active cable that is configured to communicate over much of its length using one or more optical fibers, and that includes an integrated electrical connector at least one end. The active cable can include a circuit disposed in the integrated cable, the circuit configured to provide pre-emphasis of the second electrical signal. The pre-emphasis can be accomplished by either boosting high frequency content or removing low frequency content from the first or second electrical signals. The active cable can also include circuitry configured to provide equalization of the first electrical signal within the integrated cable. The preemphasis and/or equalization can be fixed, adjustable, or adaptable. The preemphasis and/or equalization can be host selectable via a serial interface of the integrated cable, which can include I2C.

01 Feb 2006TL;DR: In this paper, a network system is provided, which includes a diagnostic module and an analysis module, which may perform any of a variety of network diagnostic functions using the messages it receives.
Abstract: A networking system is provided. The networking system may include a diagnostic module. The diagnostic module may perform any of a variety of network diagnostic functions. The diagnostic module may include an analysis module, which may receive messages and perform any of a variety of network diagnostic functions using the messages it receives. The analysis module may receive messages and generate a set of one or more statistics using the received messages. The analysis module may generate a signal configured to trigger a bit sequence capture.

03 Oct 2003TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method and apparatus for compensating a photo-detector allowing both regulation and monitoring of the photo detector to be performed with a common digital controller.
Abstract: The method and apparatus for compensating a photo-detector allows both regulation and monitoring of the photo-detector to be performed with a common digital controller. The controller accepts input of monitored operational parameters including received signal strength and temperature. The controller provides as an output a bias control signal which regulates a positive the positive or negative side bias voltage power supply for the photo-detector. The controller maintains the bias voltage to the photo-detector at levels which optimize the gain and signal-to-noise ratios for the photo-detector thereby facilitating the decoding of the received signal over a broad range of signal strengths and temperatures. The controller includes a corresponding digital signal strength and temperature compensators the outputs of which summed with a summer to provide the bias control signal. The digital signal strength compensator also provides as an output a monitor signal a level of which corresponds to the actual signal strength received by the photo-detector after compensation for the variable gain of the photo-detector resulting from the bias voltage level. A transceiver as well as methods and means for monitoring a photo-detector are also disclosed.
