TL;DR: In this paper, a master box is connected with at least one slave box and the ports on the connected boxes are logically grouped in domains, and the master box generates a clock signal that is adjusted and distributed to the slave boxes.
Abstract: Systems and methods for synchronizing time stamp counters of ports in a domain and for starting, stopping and triggering the ports in the domain at substantially the same time. A master box is connected with at least one slave box and the ports on the connected boxes are logically grouped in domains. The master box generates a clock signal that is adjusted and distributed to the slave boxes. The clock signal thus received by the slave boxes drives a clock multiplier that in turn drives the time stamp counters of the ports in the domains across the respective boxes. The time stamps of ports within a domain are synchronized because they are driven by the clock signal from the master box. The ports in a particular domain can be started, stopped and triggered using control signals that are similarly distributed from the master box to the slave boxes.

TL;DR: In this paper, the fiber stub interface for reducing cladding mode light is implemented in an optical transmission device and an absorptive layer is applied to an outer surface of the ferrule to absorb the refracted cladding modes.
Abstract: Fiber stub interface for reducing cladding mode light. The fiber stub can be implemented in an optical transmission device. The optical transmission device can be a transceiver that also includes an optical signal receiver. The fiber stub includes an optical fiber and a ferrule. The optical fiber includes both a core and a cladding. The ferrule includes a glass material with a refractive index that is greater than the refractive index of at least a portion of the optical fiber. As a result, the cladding modes are refracted into the ferrule and away from the core, thereby reducing the chance that they are transmitted to an external optical fiber. An absorptive layer can be applied to an outer surface of the ferrule to absorb the refracted cladding modes.

TL;DR: In this article, a control logic circuit (227) and multiplexor (231) are configured to monitor a fullness level of the RF data memory device (223-1, 220-2) and maintenance data memory (229).
Abstract: The CATV digital return link system includes return path transmitters, intermediate hubs and a headend hub coupled to each other via a network of fiber optics cables. A pair of data-in multiplexors (221-1, 221-2) process the latched data from latches (220-1, 220-2), the 16-bit data words from the data-in multiplexors (221-1, 221-2) are then forwarded to a pair of data memory devices (223-1, 223-2). A control logic circuit (227) of the signal processing logic (204) is configured to generate read and write addresses for the various memory devices. The control logic circuit (227) and multiplexor (231) are configured to monitor a fullness level of the RF data memory device (223-1) and maintenance data memory (229).

TL;DR: In this article, an active cable that includes an integrated electrical connector at one end and an optical connector at the other end, and one or more optical fibers disposed therebetween to facilitate optical communication over much of the length of the active cable.
Abstract: An active cable that includes an integrated electrical connector at one end and an optical connector at the other end, and one or more optical fibers disposed therebetween to facilitate optical communication over much of the length of the active cable. The communication may be one direction or even duplex.

TL;DR: In this paper, a system and method for a network tap having integrated circuitry therein for obtaining statistics about a communication line is presented, where a routing node coordinates the transmission of device data from an attached device to avoid data collisions with data transmissions already existing in the communication line.
Abstract: A system and method is presented for a network tap having integrated circuitry therein for obtaining statistics about a communication line. The network tap also has a routing node for allowing information to be transmitted back into the communication line from an attached device without disrupting the communication traffic. The routing node coordinates the transmission of device data from an attached device to avoid data collisions with data transmissions already existing in the communication line. The routing node may be an Ethernet switch or field programmable gate array (FPGA). The integrated circuit may be a microprocessor or FPGA. The integrated circuit also controls other components of the network tap. The integrated circuit may also be programmed or upgraded to provide other functions.
