TL;DR: In this article, the risk of earthquake hazard due to amplification of seismic waves in coastal Odisha has been estimated by analysis of geomorphological features and thickness of unconsolidated soil cover.
Abstract: This paper determines the risk of earthquake hazard due to amplification of seismic waves in coastal Odisha. Seismic hazards has been estimated by analysis of geomorphological features and thickness of unconsolidated soil cover. Areas with quaternary to recent deposits have great potential to amplify intensity of seismic waves and consequently the ground motion. Morphometric analysis of the DEM data has been conducted to identify areas with high potential of accumulation of unconsolidated sediment, and other parameters that influence deposit of loose, unconsolidated soil in the region. Weighted overlay method has been used to create soil amplification susceptibility map for the coastal Odisha. The Mahanadi basin shows dominant structural control on seismic activity. Lineament patterns are mostly directed in the WNW–ESE, NE–SW and NNW–SSE directions and may induce elongation of isoseismic patterns. The analysis also shows that the western, northern and middle parts of the study region have low to moderate susceptibility whereas the coastal Odisha have high susceptibility for seismic amplification due to thick unconsolidated sediment accumulation.

11 Apr 2012TL;DR: Simulation study demonstrates comparable performance of the new ANC method with that of the conventional nonlinear ANC schemes, with reduced computational complexity.
Abstract: This paper proposes a novel low complexity nonlinear active noise control (ANC) system. The nonlinear controller is composed of an adaptive Legendre neural network (LeNN), updated using a filtered-l least mean square (FlLMS) algorithm. The computational complexity of the proposed scheme has been further reduced by incorporating the principle of partial update adaptive algorithms. Simulation study demonstrates comparable performance of the new ANC method with that of the conventional nonlinear ANC schemes, with reduced computational complexity.

TL;DR: The efficacy of the proposed framework will significantly drive the integration of MANET and WSN in future internet using smart objects as well as evaluating a case study on data harvesting in rural areas.
Abstract: Internet of Things (IoT) has become an emerging platform for connecting real-world objects for desired service provisioning via the Internet. The real-world devices or objects in IoT enable a smart environment with the help of Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). However, the integration of MANET and WSN in the IoT environment requires a flexible and unified framework for efficient and secure communication between intelligent objects or devices. The state-of-art works in this direction lack standard communication framework for effective implementation of MANET with WSN. In this paper, an efficient and secure communication framework for interconnecting MANET and WSN devices is presented. The proposed communication framework comprises different phases such as collecting data using sensors, sending the data to data processing centers via the mobile access points and finally forwarding the data to data centers for analysis, decision making and reporting purposes. The proposed integration solution is discussed in detail and is evaluated with a case study on data harvesting in rural areas. The efficacy of the proposed framework is reported which will significantly drive the integration of MANET and WSN in future internet using smart objects.
