TL;DR: A robust algorithm to identify the modulation type of digital signal contaminated with non-Gaussian impulse noise and additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) using a sparse signal decomposition on hybrid dictionary is introduced.
Abstract: Automatic modulation classification (AMC) is a salient component in the area of cognitive radio, signal detection, interference identification, electronic warfare, spectrum management and surveillance. The majority of the existing signals detection and classification methods presume that the received signal is corrupted by additive white Gaussian noise. The performance of the modulation classification algorithms degrades severely under the non-Gaussian impulsive noise. Hence, in this paper, we introduce a robust algorithm to identify the modulation type of digital signal contaminated with non-Gaussian impulse noise and additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) using a sparse signal decomposition on hybrid dictionary. The algorithm first detects and removes the impulse noise using sparse signal decomposition thereafter it classifies the modulation schemes using cyclostationary feature extraction algorithm. Simulation results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method under different non-Gaussian impulse noise and AWGN conditions. The performance of the proposed classifier is evaluated using well known classifiers available in the literature.

TL;DR: A closed-form expression for average bit error probability (ABEP) and outage probability (OP) are derived and analyzed by varying the various parameters like the number of reflectors in the RIS, impulsive noise scenario in the PLC channel.
Abstract: In this letter, we analyze the performance of reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) assisted mixed power line communication (PLC)/radio frequency (RF) system in smart grid application. In a smart grid, the data concentrator (DC) plays an important role in communication between the home appliances through the access point (AP). The DC can communicate using the existing PLC up to the AP, and the AP interacts with the home appliances with advanced communication technology like RIS-based RF communication. The modulation scheme is considered here as binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) modulation. Based on the system model, a closed-form expression for average bit error probability (ABEP) and outage probability (OP) are derived and analyzed by varying the various parameters like the number of reflectors in the RIS, impulsive noise scenario in the PLC channel.

TL;DR: The GNB modified electrode exhibited enhanced BPA oxidation current, due to the high effective surface area and high adsorption capacity of the GNB, demonstrating that GNB is potentially a new material for the development of a practical BPA electrochemical sensor with application in both industrial and plastic industries.
Abstract: An electrochemical sensor has been developed for the detection of Bisphenol-A (BPA) using photolithographically patterned platinum electrodes modified with multilayer graphene nanobelts (GNB). Compared to bare electrodes, the GNB modified electrode exhibited enhanced BPA oxidation current, due to the high effective surface area and high adsorption capacity of the GNB. The sensor showed a linear response over the concentration range from 0.5 µM – 9 µM with a very low limit of detection = 37.33 nM. In addition, the sensor showed very good stability and reproducibility with good specificity, demonstrating that GNB is potentially a new material for the development of a practical BPA electrochemical sensor with application in both industrial and plastic industries.

TL;DR: In this article, a comparative study has been carried out on tensile properties and failure mechanisms of Al-4·5 wt-%Cu alloy and in situ Al 4·5Cu-5TiB2 composite in as cast or mushy state rolled conditions.
Abstract: A comparative study has been carried out on tensile properties and failure mechanisms of Al–4·5 wt-%Cu alloy and in situ Al–4·5Cu–5TiB2 composite in as cast or mushy state rolled conditions. For the alloy, mushy state rolling at temperature for 30 vol.-% nominal liquid content to 2·5% thickness reduction leads to marginally higher strength but poorer ductility, while both these properties worsen significantly on 5% reduction because of grain growth and intergranular solute segregation. Contrarily, mechanical properties of the composite are significantly improved on mushy state rolling at temperatures for 10–30 vol.-% liquid to 2·5–5% reduction. Improvement in mechanical properties of the composite on mushy state rolling is attributed to evolution of globular and finer grains. Examination of fracture surfaces by scanning electron microscope has shown evidence of ductile failure in as cast alloy and in cast or mushy state rolled composite, but that of brittle failure in mushy state rolled alloy.
