TL;DR: In this paper, a novel design of CW Cr 2+ :ZnS/ZnSe laser systems and demonstrate record output powers of 27.5 W at 2.45 μm and 13.9 W at 4.94 μm with slope efficiencies of 63.7% and 37.4%, respectively.
Abstract: We report a novel design of CW Cr 2+ :ZnS/ZnSe laser systems and demonstrate record output powers of 27.5 W at 2.45 μm and 13.9 W at 2.94 μm with slope efficiencies of 63.7% and 37.4%, respectively. Power scaling of ultra-fast Cr 2+ :ZnS/ZnSe Kerr mode-locked lasers beyond 2 W level, as well as the shortest pulse duration of 29 fs, are also reported. New development of Fe:ZnSe laser with average output power > 35 W at 4.1 μm output wavelength and 100 Hz pulse repetition rate (PRR) was achieved in a nonselective cavity. With intracavity prim selector, wavelength tunability of 3.88-4.17 μm was obtained with maximum average output power of 23 W. We also report new results on Tm-fiber pumped passively and actively Q-switched Ho:YAG laser systems. High peak power actively Q-switched Ho:YAG laser demonstrates stable operation with pulse energy > 50 mJ, 12 ns pulse duration, and 100-1000 Hz PRR which correspondents to more than 4 MW peak power. The actively Q-switched Ho:YAG laser system optimized for high repetition rate delivers 40 W average output power at 10-100 kHz PRR. The Ho:YAG laser with passive Q-switcher demonstrates constant 5 mJ output energy from 200 Hz to 2.23 kHz PRR with optical slope efficiency with respect to Tm-fiber laser of ~43%.

TL;DR: In this article, a light stripper made of material having a refractive index which is substantially the same as or greater than that one of outer claddings is used to minimize the amount of light capable of coupling into the protective coatings of the respective delivery and coupler fibers enhancing thus a power handling capabilities of the waveguide.
Abstract: A waveguide receiving light which propagates through free space is configured with a coupler and delivery fiber. The coupler, including a GREEN or multimode fiber, has a protective coating and so does the delivery fiber. Upon splicing of the coupler to the delivery fiber, the protective coatings of the respective coupler and delivery fiber are spaced apart exposing thus end regions of the respective coupler and fiber. The exposed regions are covered by a light stripper made of material having a refractive index which is substantially the same as or greater than that one of outer claddings. Accordingly, the light stripper minimizes the amount of light capable of coupling into the protective coatings of the respective delivery and coupler fibers enhancing thus a power handling capabilities of the waveguide.

TL;DR: In this article, a power supply for laser systems is configured with a DC power source having an output source voltage, an energy accumulator operatively connected to the output of the DC power sources, and a pump.
Abstract: A power supply for laser systems is configured with a DC power source having an output source voltage, an energy accumulator operatively connected to the output of the DC power source, and a pump. Coupled between the accumulator and source is a first DC to DC switched-mode power converter operative to charge the accumulator with voltage which may be same or different from the source voltage. The power supply further includes a second DC to DC switched-mode power converter coupled between the accumulator and pump and operative to discharge accumulator to the same or different, output voltage. The DC to DC converter are configured so that current pulses at the input of the pump each have a peak value greater than the power source current.

TL;DR: In this paper, a laser cutting head with movable mirrors is described, which can be used to move a beam to provide beam alignment and/or to provide different wobble patterns for cutting with different kerf widths.
Abstract: A laser cutting head with movable mirrors may be used to move a beam, for example, to provide beam alignment and/or to provide different wobble patterns for cutting with different kerf widths. The laser cutting head includes a cutting nozzle for directing the laser beam together with a gas to a workpiece for cutting. The movable mirrors provide a wobbling movement of the beam within a relatively small field of view, for example, within an aperture of the cutting nozzle. The movable mirrors may be galvanometer mirrors that are controllable by a control system including a galvo controller. The control system may also be used to control the fiber laser, for example, in response to the position of the beams relative to the workpiece and/or a sensed condition in the cutting head such as a thermal condition proximate one of the mirrors.
