TL;DR: A detailed review of the up-to-date work on scour at abutments is presented in this article, including all possible aspects, such as flow field, scouring process, parameters affecting scour depth, time-variation of scour and scour estimation formulae.
Abstract: Failure of bridges due to local scour has motivated many investigators to explore the causes of scouring and to predict the maximum scour depth at abutments. In this paper, a detailed review of the up-to-date work on scour at abutments is presented including all possible aspects, such as flow field, scouring process, parameters affecting scour depth, time-variation of scour and scour depth estimation formulae.

TL;DR: In this article, the potential of activated tea waste (ATW) as a useful adsorbent for the removal of p-nitrophenol (p-NP) from aqueous systems was determined using batch experiments with synthetic wastewater having a p-NP concentration of 1000 mg·L−1.
Abstract: The aim of this work was to determine the potential of activated tea waste (ATW) as a useful adsorbent for the removal of p-nitrophenol (p-NP) from aqueous systems. The study was realized using batch experiments with synthetic wastewater having a p-NP concentration of 1000 mg·L−1. The effects of pH, contact time, and presence of anions were investigated. An increase in the pH to above neutrality resulted in a decrease in the p-NP adsorption capacity. The adsorption process reached equilibrium within 5 h of contact time. The Freundlich, Langmuir, Temkin, Dubunin−Radushkevich, and Redlich−Peterson adsorption models were used for mathematical description of the adsorption equilibrium, and it was found that the experimental data fitted very well to the Langmuir isotherm. Batch adsorption studies, based on the assumption of a pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, or intraparticle diffusion mechanism, showed that the kinetic data followed closely a pseudo-second-order rather than a pseudo-first-order mechani...

TL;DR: In this paper, the electrical properties of ZnO thin films prepared by spray pyrolysis were studied for ethanol sensors and it was observed that the sensitivity increases with increasing working temperature.
Abstract: The electrical characteristics of ZnO thin films prepared by spray pyrolysis, have been studied for ethanol sensors. The sensitivities of the films are measured at various temperatures and concentrations of ethanol. It is observed that the sensitivity increases with increasing working temperature. At higher ethanol concentrations, the sensitivity increases more rapidly with increasing temperature. Further, the films show fast response and recovery times at higher working temperatures. The sensing mechanism of the films towards ethanol vapour has been explained.

TL;DR: In this article, the mixing and pressure drop characteristics for flow through a wavy micromixer of two geometrical configurations, namely raccoon and serpentine, were numerically analyzed.
Abstract: We numerically analyze the mixing and pressure drop characteristics for flow through wavy micromixer of two geometrical configurations, namely raccoon and serpentine for different values of amplitude of the waviness of the mixer (α), wavelength of the waviness (λ), Reynolds number(Re) and Schmidt number(Sc). Three different flow regimes are identified depending on the parameters influencing the mixing index. The mixing index for both the raccoon and serpentine mixer is very close to unity in the first regime (0.1
