08 Jul 1992TL;DR: In this paper, two or more integrated circuits (64-66, 104, 106-108, 116-118, 122-126) are stacked on a circuit substrate or a printed-wiring board in such a way that the planes of the chips lie horizontally, rather than vertically, on the substrate or wiring board.
Abstract: Two or more integrated circuit or memory chips (64-66, 104, 106-108, 116-118, 122-126) are stacked on a circuit substrate (72, 100) or a printed-wiring board in such a manner that the planes of the chips lie horizontally, rather than vertically, on the substrate or wiring board. The chips are preferably interconnected along all of their edges (68) and thence, preferably by ribbon bonds, to the substrate or wiring board. The thus assembled arrangement is hermetically sealed by coatings of passivation and encapsulant. Such chips (25) are oversized, as distinguished from chips conventionally diced from wafers. Specifically, each chip is larger than an individual wafer circuit (18, 20), that is, each wafer portion (24) which is selected to be formed into a chip has a size that is larger than the individual wafer circuit which it incorporates, thus overlapping adjacent circuits.

11 Apr 1997TL;DR: In this paper, a staging buffer is integrated with the final stage of a multi-stage sense amplifier for storing at least one bit of data, and the data signal is transferred from the memory to the staging buffer at a voltage level lower than the full swing voltage level.
Abstract: In an amplifier design for a wide memory architecture, a staging buffer can be integrated with the final stage of a multi-stage sense amplifier. The staging buffer includes a memory latch for storing at least one bit of data. The data is transferred into the staging buffer from memory upon strobing at least one read enable line, and transferred from the staging buffer to a data bus upon strobing at least one write enable line. The data signal is transferred from the memory to the staging buffer at a voltage level lower than the full swing voltage level. The memory architecture produced using this design technique allows for a much lower voltage swing on all of the data lines, thus lowering the power requirements of the circuit.

24 Apr 2003TL;DR: In this paper, a method for generating an adaptive air interface waveform includes generating a waveform that includes a variable carrier frequency and variable bandwidth signal, and each subcarrier is separately modulated according to a direct sequence (DS) spread spectrum (SS) technique.
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for generating an adaptive air interface waveform includes generating a waveform that includes a variable carrier frequency and variable bandwidth signal. The variable bandwidth signal includes one or more subcarriers that are dynamically placeable over a range of frequencies, and each subcarrier is separately modulated according to a direct sequence (DS) spread spectrum (SS) technique. The waveform has an embedded pilot usable to optimize one or more spectrum efficiencies of the waveform. A modulation constellation, a code rate, and a code length of the generated waveform are adapted according to an available spectrum and one or more sub-carrier conditions.

TL;DR: In this article, a computationally efficient system for detecting and tracking of missiles, aircraft, resident space objects or other objects in the presence of background clutter, determines missile types and estimates missile position and velocity components in an inertial reference frame.
Abstract: A computationally efficient missile detection and tracking system, operating on data samples from a focal plane assembly (FPA) of an electro-optical sensor which is observing the earth and space, detects missiles, aircraft, resident space objects or other objects in the presence of background clutter, determines missile types and estimates missile position and velocity components in an inertial reference frame. Digitized samples from an array of electro-optical detectors which are viewing the earth and/or space are processed to detect and track missiles, aircraft and resident space objects. Streak detection is used for this purpose, where the target is separated from a background scene by exploiting target motion relative to the background scene. This processing system provides superior performance and simplified implementation as compared to conventional methods. The weight and power of a computer which can implement the processing system is much reduced as compared to conventional implementation.

TL;DR: Valproate shows the most promising efficacy in treating mood and anxiety disorders, with possible efficacy in the treatment of agitation and impulsive aggression, and less convincing therapeutic response in treating psychosis and alcohol withdrawal or dependence.
Abstract: The therapeutic effects of valproate in psychiatric conditions are most substantially recognized in bipolar disorder. However, this well-tolerated medication may be beneficial in the treatment of other mental illnesses. In this article, the authors comprehensively review studies of valproate as trea
