Abstract: This paper presents the results of a survey that asked 1084 undergraduates from nine colleges across the northeastern USA to evaluate the intrusiveness and reasonableness of searches conducted by police and other agents of social control Five versions of the survey tool, a self-administered questionnaire, were created Each of the five versions varied the target/nature of the search, and participants received only one version of the survey The five variations varied scenarios with the participant as the target of the search, with another unspecified person as the target, and with search specifically directed towards drugs, crimes against children, and homeland security The current analysis focused on a subset of the sample addressing perceptions of 17 search scenarios targeting homeland security, immigration control, and border security Participants’ attitudes towards homeland security searches were also compared to similar searches directed against oneself to provide insights into whether participant

TL;DR: In this paper, a set of behaviors unique to handling dead, endothermic prey in an arboreal context were described using captive individuals of the semi-arboreal Boa constrictor.
Abstract: Prey-handling behavior serves as an important link between the processes of prey capture, transport, and swallowing. Snakes, lacking limbs, have developed a series of complex behaviors for the purposes of subjugating and handling their food. Using captive individuals of the semiarboreal Boa constrictor, we describe for the first time a set of behaviors unique to handling dead, endothermic prey in an arboreal context. Faced with the challenges of having to support the body weight of both themselves and their prey, Boa Constrictors create a series of loops that allow the body of the snake to support the prey item while also allowing for intraoral transport and swallowing. These loops can be adjusted and repositioned during transport, positioning the prey so that the pull of gravity is in line with swallowing.

TL;DR: In this article, a sample of early high achieving women publicly honored for college contributions were examined between 1 and 50 years post award to determine their personality and social clock projects, examine the degree to which the women remained politically and civically involved over their later adulthood; and to understand the impact early achievement may have had on feminist attitudes.
Abstract: Seventy nine women from a sample of early high achieving women publicly honored for college contributions were examined between 1 and 50 years post award to determine their personality and social clock projects, examine the degree to which the women remained politically and civically involved over their later adulthood; and to understand the impact early achievement may have had on feminist attitudes. Utilizing a series of personality, political ideology, feminist attitude and generative concern and action scales along with life history data, women’s feminine social clock projects were compared with personality variables and descriptively compared with earlier published reports on mid century women’s social clock projects (Helson et al. Journal of Personality and Social Psychology 46:1079–1096, 1984). With the exception of 1970 era winners, women’s social clock projects across multiple eras remain consistent with earlier findings. Regression analyses indicate political ideology predicts feminist attitudes and political behaviors, whereas identity achievement personality variables predict generative concern.

TL;DR: The Revised Situation-Specific Theory of Breast/Chest Feeding (STB-R) as discussed by the authors was derived from the original Situation-specific theory of Breastfeeding and is an explanatory theory which recognizes breastfeeding as fundamentally embodied, personal, and situational.
Abstract: The Revised Situation-Specific Theory of Breast/Chest Feeding (STB-R) was derived from the original Situation-Specific Theory of Breastfeeding (STB). It is an explanatory theory which recognizes breastfeeding as fundamentally embodied, personal, and situational. The theory is unique from other theories in that it reconceptualizes both the central tension involved in the personal parental infant feeding experience, and the desired outcome of support. The theory proposes the more congruity and less conflict between parents and their support networks the more readily breastfeeding dyads will progress toward achieving an individually defined “salutary” (health-promoting, and self-affirming) breast/chest feeding experience. The STB-R recognizes the diversity of breast/chest feeding families, respects the patients’ right to choose, and remains true to the ethical values of the nursing profession.

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that all renewal systems that meet a certain technical condition are essentially conjugate to a shift of finite type, but not to a renewal system with finite periodic points.
