TL;DR: The experimental results definitely demonstrate that WS2 could be a kind of promising SA for solid-state 2 μm lasers.
Abstract: We prepared WS2 nanosheets by using the thermal decomposition method and demonstrated for the first time its nonlinear saturable absorption property at around 2 μm. With the as-prepared WS2 nanosheets as saturable absorber (SA), a passively Q-switched Tm:LuAG laser was realized successfully, and 660 ns laser pulses with an average output power of 1.08 W and pulse peak power of 26 W at a repetition rate of 63 kHz were obtained for an incident pump power of 7 W. Our experimental results definitely demonstrate that WS2 could be a kind of promising SA for solid-state 2 μm lasers.

TL;DR: The transcriptome analysis of short-term acclimation to salt stress was performed in C. reinhardtii and a series of molecular cues were screened for salt stress response, including maintaining the lipid homeostasis by regulating phosphatidic acid, acetate being used as an alternative source of energy for solving impairment of photosynthesis, and enhancement of glycolysis metabolism to decrease the carbohydrate accumulation in cells.
Abstract: Salinity is one of the most important abiotic stresses threatening plant growth and agricultural productivity worldwide. In green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, physiological evidence indicates that saline stress increases intracellular peroxide levels and inhibits photosynthetic-electron flow. However, understanding the genetic underpinnings of salt-responding traits in plantae remains a daunting challenge. In this study, the transcriptome analysis of short-term acclimation to salt stress (200 mM NaCl for 24 h) was performed in C. reinhardtii. A total of 10,635 unigenes were identified as being differently expressed by RNA-seq, including 5920 up- and 4715 down-regulated unigenes. A series of molecular cues were screened for salt stress response, including maintaining the lipid homeostasis by regulating phosphatidic acid, acetate being used as an alternative source of energy for solving impairment of photosynthesis, and enhancement of glycolysis metabolism to decrease the carbohydrate accumulation in cells. Our results may help understand the molecular and genetic underpinnings of salt stress responses in green alga C. reinhardtii.

TL;DR: A novel strategy for enhanced radiation therapy based on a mitochondria targeted titanium dioxide-gold nanoradiosensitizer is developed.
Abstract: Radiation therapy (RT) has been widely used for malignant tumor treatment. However, the large dosage of ionizing radiation and high frequency of radiotherapy in clinical cancer therapy cause severe damage to normal tissues adjacent to tumors. Therefore, how to increase the local treatment efficacy and reduce the damage to normal tissues has been a challenge for RT. Herein, we developed a novel strategy for enhanced RT based on a mitochondria targeted titanium dioxide-gold nanoradiosensitizer. When irradiated with X-rays, the nanosensitizer could produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the mitochondria, which induced the domino effect on the ROS burst. The overproduced ROS accumulated in mitochondria, resulting in mitochondrial collapse and irreversible cell apoptosis. A colony formation assay indicated that the cell survival rate when incubated with the mitochondrial targeted nanosensitizer was significantly lower than that of non-targeted groups. As demonstrated by in vivo experiments, the tumor was significantly suppressed even just once RT with the nanosensitizer.

TL;DR: The obtained composite material is able to highly promote one-pot tandem synthesis of imine products from benzyl alcohols and corresponding amines under solvent-free conditions in air.
Abstract: Condensation of benzene-1,3,5-tricarbohydrazide with benzene-1,4-dicarboxaldehyde generated a new covalent organic framework, COF-ASB (1), in which the organic units are held together via hydrazone linkage to form porous frameworks. COF-ASB (1) is highly crystalline and displays good chemical and thermal stability and is permanently porous. In addition, 1 can be an ideal support to load Ru nanoparticles (Ru NPs) to generate Ru@COF-ASB (2). The obtained composite material is able to highly promote one-pot tandem synthesis of imine products from benzyl alcohols and corresponding amines under solvent-free conditions in air.
