TL;DR: This study revealed that certain endogenous genes are more amenable than others to transcriptional activation, and tightly regulated genes may cause target gene silencing when perturbed by activation probes, and these new tools could be used to investigate gene regulatory networks and their control mechanisms.

TL;DR: In this paper, a complete picture of perovskite from initial physical uptake of water molecules to final chemical transition to its monohydrate MAPbI3·H2O is obtained with in situ infrared spectroscopy, mass monitoring, and X-ray diffraction.
Abstract: Microscopic understanding of interaction between H2O and MAPbI3 (CH3NH3PbI3) is essential to further improve efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells. A complete picture of perovskite from initial physical uptake of water molecules to final chemical transition to its monohydrate MAPbI3·H2O is obtained with in situ infrared spectroscopy, mass monitoring, and X-ray diffraction. Despite strong affinity of MA to water, MAPbI3 absorbs almost no water from ambient air. Water molecules penetrate the perovskite lattice and share the space with MA up to one H2O per MA at high-humidity levels. However, the interaction between MA and H2O through hydrogen bonding is not established until the phase transition to monohydrate where H2O and MA are locked to each other. This lack of interaction in water-infiltrated perovskite is a result of dynamic orientational disorder imposed by tetragonal lattice symmetry. The apparent inertness of H2O along with high stability of perovskite in an ambient environment provide...

TL;DR: Density functional theory (DFT) calculations suggest that the lower sodiation energy barrier of anatase with OVs enables a more favorable Na intercalation into black anatase, which also offers a potential strategy to project more superior electrodes, utilizing internal defects.
Abstract: Nanostructured black anatase titania with oxygen vacancies (OVs) is efficiently obtained and employed as an anode in sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) for the first time. The incorporation of OVs into TiO2 is demonstrated to render considerably enhanced-rate performances, higher initial capacities, and an accelerated electrochemical activation process during cycling, derived from the boosted intrinsic electric conductivity and improved kinetics of Na uptake. Bestowed with the integrated merits of OVs and shortened Na ion diffusion length in the nanostructure, black titania delivers a reversible specific capacity of 207.6 mAh g–1 at 0.2 C, retains 99.1% over 500 cycles at 1 C stably, and still maintains 91.2 mAh g–1 even at the high rate of 20 C. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations suggest that the lower sodiation energy barrier of anatase with OVs enables a more favorable Na intercalation into black anatase. Thus, it is of great significance to introduce OVs into TiO2 to stimulate ultrafast and durable...

TL;DR: A new predictor called ‘pLoc‐mAnimal’ is proposed, which is superior to iLoc‐Animal, and when tested by the most rigorous cross‐validation on the same high‐quality benchmark dataset, the absolute true success rate achieved by the new predictor is 37% higher and the absolute false rate is four times lower in comparison with the state‐of‐the‐art predictor.
Abstract: Motivation Cells are deemed the basic unit of life. However, many important functions of cells as well as their growth and reproduction are performed via the protein molecules located at their different organelles or locations. Facing explosive growth of protein sequences, we are challenged to develop fast and effective method to annotate their subcellular localization. However, this is by no means an easy task. Particularly, mounting evidences have indicated proteins have multi-label feature meaning that they may simultaneously exist at, or move between, two or more different subcellular location sites. Unfortunately, most of the existing computational methods can only be used to deal with the single-label proteins. Although the 'iLoc-Animal' predictor developed recently is quite powerful that can be used to deal with the animal proteins with multiple locations as well, its prediction quality needs to be improved, particularly in enhancing the absolute true rate and reducing the absolute false rate. Results Here we propose a new predictor called 'pLoc-mAnimal', which is superior to iLoc-Animal as shown by the compelling facts. When tested by the most rigorous cross-validation on the same high-quality benchmark dataset, the absolute true success rate achieved by the new predictor is 37% higher and the absolute false rate is four times lower in comparison with the state-of-the-art predictor. Availability and implementation To maximize the convenience of most experimental scientists, a user-friendly web-server for the new predictor has been established at http://www.jci-bioinfo.cn/pLoc-mAnimal/, by which users can easily get their desired results without the need to go through the complicated mathematics involved.
