TL;DR: A review of available data on the iron-containing nanomaterials can be found in this article, where main attention is paid to the following themes: synthetic methods, structures, composition and properties of the nano zerovalent iron (NZVI), and polymorphic forms of iron oxides and FeOOH.
Abstract: Available data on the iron-containing nanomaterials are reviewed. Main attention is paid to the following themes: synthetic methods, structures, composition and properties of the nano zerovalent iron (NZVI), and polymorphic forms of iron oxides and FeOOH. Synthetic methods summarized here include a series of physico-chemical methods such as microwave heating, electrodeposition, laser ablation, radiolytical techniques, arc discharge, metal-membrane incorporation, pyrolysis, combustion, reverse micelle and co-deposition routes. We have also included a few “greener” methods. Coated, doped, supported with polymers or inert inorganic materials, core–shell nanostructures, in particular those of iron and its oxides with gold, are discussed. Studies of remediation involving iron-containing nanomaterials are discussed and special attention is paid to the processes of remediation of organic contaminants (chlorine-containing pollutants, benzoic and formic acids, dyes) and inorganic cations (Zn(II), Cu(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II)) and anions (nitrates, bromates, arsenates). Water disinfection (against viruses and bacteria), toxicity and risks of iron nanomaterials application are also examined.

TL;DR: All of these trinuclear copper(I) pyrazolates show bright luminescence upon exposure to UV radiation, suggesting metal-centered emissions owing to intertrimer Cu...Cu interactions that are strengthened in the phosphorescent state.
Abstract: Synthetic details, solid-state structures, and photophysical properties of a group of trimeric copper(I) complexes containing pyrazolate ligands are described. The reaction of copper(I) oxide and the fluorinated pyrazoles [3-(CF3)Pz]H, [3-(CF3),5-(Me)Pz]H, and [3-(CF3),5-(Ph)Pz]H leads to the corresponding trinuclear copper(I) pyrazolates, {[3-(CF3)Pz]Cu}3, {[3-(CF3),5-(Me)Pz]Cu}3, and {[3-(CF3),5-(Ph)Pz]Cu}3, respectively, in high yield. The {[3,5-(i-Pr)2Pz]Cu}3 compound was obtained by a reaction between [Cu(CH3CN)4][BF4], [3,5-(i-Pr)2Pz]H, and NEt3. These compounds as well as {[3,5-(Me)2Pz]Cu}3 and {[3,5-(CF3)2Pz]Cu}3 adopt trimeric structures with nine-membered Cu3N6 metallacycles. There are varying degrees and types of intertrimer Cu···Cu interactions. These contacts give rise to zigzag chains in the fluorinated complexes, {[3-(CF3)Pz]Cu}3, {[3-(CF3),5-(Me)Pz]Cu}3, {[3-(CF3),5-(Ph)Pz]Cu}3, and {[3,5-(CF3)2Pz]Cu}3, whereas the nonfluorinated complexes, {[3,5-(Me)2Pz]Cu}3 and {[3,5-(i-Pr)2Pz]Cu}3 form ...

TL;DR: In this paper, a theoretical foundation for studying the establishment and evolution of family firms in emerging markets is built based on comparative case studies of informal microfinanced businesses in East Africa.
Abstract: Employing grounded theory based on comparative case studies of informal microfinanced businesses in East Africa, we build a theoretical foundation for studying the establishment and evolution of family firms in emerging markets. We show that East African entrepreneurs not only use both strong family and strong community ties to establish and grow businesses, but they also use strong community ties to counterbalance the obligations that strong extended family ties create. In addition, we show that economic informality presents opportunities for some entrepreneurial businesses but not others to cycle rapidly from opportunity to opportunity as they maneuver toward higher value-creating ventures.

TL;DR: A silent positioning scheme termed UPS for underwater acoustic sensor networks, which requires no time synchronization and provides location privacy at underwater vehicles/sensors whose locations need to be determined, is presented.
Abstract: In this paper, we present a silent positioning scheme termed UPS for underwater acoustic sensor networks. UPS relies on the time difference of arrivals locally measured at a sensor to detect range differences from the sensor to four anchor nodes. These range differences are averaged over multiple beacon intervals before they are combined to estimate the 3-D sensor location through trilateration. UPS requires no time synchronization and provides location privacy at underwater vehicles/sensors whose locations need to be determined. To study the performance of UPS, we model the underwater acoustic channel as a modified ultrawideband Saleh-Valenzuela model: The arrival of each path cluster and the paths within each cluster follow double Poisson distributions, and the multipath channel gain follows a Rician distribution. Based on this channel model, we perform both theoretical analysis and simulation study on the position error of UPS under acoustic fading channels. The obtained results indicate that UPS is an effective scheme for underwater vehicle/sensor self-positioning.
