Strategies to Stimulate Mobilization and Homing of Endogenous Stem and Progenitor Cells for Bone Tissue Repair
TL;DR: An overview of the different approaches for delivering homing factors to the defect site by absorption or incorporation to biomaterials, gene therapy, or via genetically manipulated cells is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mesenchymal stem cells transmigrate across brain microvascular endothelial cell monolayers through transiently formed inter-endothelial gaps.
Takashi Matsushita,Tatsuya Kibayashi,Takahiro Katayama,Yuuki Yamashita,Syuuichirou Suzuki,Jun Kawamata,Osamu Honmou,Masabumi Minami,Shun Shimohama +8 more
TL;DR: Results show that the in vitro culture system consisting of BMECs and MSCs is useful for investigating the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying MSC transmigration across the blood-brain barrier.
Journal ArticleDOI
The power of fat and its adipose‐derived stromal cells: emerging concepts for fibrotic scar treatment
Maroesjka Spiekman,Joris A van Dongen,Joep C. N. Willemsen,Delia Letizia Hoppe,Berend van der Lei,Martin C. Harmsen +5 more
TL;DR: Both clinical and animal studies clearly demonstrated that lipofilling and ADSC influence processes associated with wound healing, including extracellular matrix remodelling, angiogenesis and modulation of inflammation in dermal scars, however, randomized clinical trials, providing sufficient level of evidence for lip ofilling and/or ADSC as an anti‐scarring treatment are lacking yet warranted in the near future.
Book ChapterDOI
Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Regenerative Medicine
TL;DR: The central feature of change is that progenitor cells divide and their progeny differentiate in a sequence of site-specific changes to both expand the dimensions of tissues and replace cells that naturally expire.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tendon graft revitalization using adult anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)-derived CD34+ cell sheets for ACL reconstruction.
Yutaka Mifune,Tomoyuki Matsumoto,Tomoyuki Matsumoto,Koji Takayama,Koji Takayama,Satoshi Terada,Naosumi Sekiya,Ryosuke Kuroda,Masahiro Kurosaka,Freddie H. Fu,Johnny Huard +10 more
TL;DR: It is believed the incorporated CD34+ cells enhanced the healing of both the bone-tendon junction and the grafted tendon in the reconstructed rat ACLs by increasing proprioceptive recovery, graft maturation, and biomechanical strength.

Mark F. Pittenger,Alastair Morgan Mackay,Stephen C. Beck,Rama K. Jaiswal,Robin Douglas,Joseph D. Mosca,Mark Aaron Moorman,Donald William Jr. Ward Road Simonetti,Stewart Craig,Daniel R. Marshak +9 more
TL;DR: Adult stem cells isolated from marrow aspirates of volunteer donors could be induced to differentiate exclusively into the adipocytic, chondrocytic, or osteocytic lineages.

Human Adipose Tissue Is a Source of Multipotent Stem Cells
Patricia A. Zuk,Min Zhu,Peter Ashjian,Daniel A. De Ugarte,Jerry I. Huang,Hiroshi Mizuno,Zeni Alfonso,John K. Fraser,Prosper Benhaim,Marc H. Hedrick +9 more
TL;DR: To confirm whether adipose tissue contains stem cells, the PLA population and multiple clonal isolates were analyzed using several molecular and biochemical approaches and PLA cells exhibited unique characteristics distinct from those seen in MSCs, including differences in CD marker profile and gene expression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mesenchymal stem cells
TL;DR: The study of mesenchymal stem cells, whether isolated from embryos or adults, provides the basis for the emergence of a new therapeutic technology of self‐cell repair.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mesenchymal Stem Cells
TL;DR: The bone marrow contains multipotent MSC, which can be easily isolated and cultured in vitro, and the possibility of their clinical use in cell and gene therapy is analyzed.

Self-Renewing Osteoprogenitors in Bone Marrow Sinusoids Can Organize a Hematopoietic Microenvironment
Benedetto Sacchetti,Alessia Funari,Stefano Michienzi,Silvia Di Cesare,Stefania Piersanti,Isabella Saggio,Isabella Saggio,Enrico Tagliafico,Stefano Ferrari,Pamela Gehron Robey,Mara Riminucci,Paolo Bianco +11 more
TL;DR: It is shown that MCAM/CD146-expressing, subendothelial cells in human BM stroma are capable of transferring, upon transplantation, the HME to heterotopic sites, coincident with the establishment of identical subendOThelial cells within a miniature bone organ.
