TLDR
A flow cytometric method for measuring the percentage of apoptotic nuclei after propidium iodide staining in hypotonic buffer is developed and shown an excellent correlation with the results obtained with both electrophoretic and colorimetric methods.About:

Phenotypic and Functional Characterization of Blood γδ T Cells in Sleep Apnea
TL;DR: The phenotype, cytokine profile, adhesion properties, and cytotoxicity of T cells in patients with OSA and control subjects are characterized and cytoxia-induced lymphocyte dysfunction may be implicated in endothelial cell damage in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) syndrome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dichotomy of AML1-ETO functions: growth arrest versus block of differentiation.
TL;DR: It is predicted that the preleukemic AML-1-ETO+ cells must overcome AML1- ETO-induced growth arrest and apoptosis prior to fulfilling their leukemogenic potential.
Journal ArticleDOI
Human galectin-1, -2, and -4 induce surface exposure of phosphatidylserine in activated human neutrophils but not in activated T cells.
Sean R. Stowell,Sougata Karmakar,Caleb J. Stowell,Marcelo Dias-Baruffi,Rodger P. McEver,Rodger P. McEver,Richard D. Cummings +6 more
TL;DR: Novel immunoregulatory contribution of galectins in regulating leukocyte turnover independently of apoptosis is suggested, indicating that galectin's effects are cell specific.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 Envelope Glycoprotein Complex-Induced Apoptosis Involves Mammalian Target of Rapamycin/Fkbp12-Rapamycin–Associated Protein–Mediated P53 Phosphorylation

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that phosphorylation of p53S15 by mTOR/FRAP plays a critical role in syncytial apoptosis driven by HIV-1 Env, as well as in peripheral blood mononuclear cells, correlating with viral load.

CD95 (Fas/Apo-1) as a receptor governing astrocyte apoptotic or inflammatory responses: a key role in brain inflammation?
Philippe Saas,José Boucraut,Anne-Lise Quiquerez,Valérie Schnuriger,Gaelle Perrin,Sophie Desplat-Jego,Dominique Bernard,Paul R. Walker,Pierre-Yves Dietrich +8 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that CD95 expressed by humanAstrocytes plays a pivotal role in the regulation of astrocyte life and death and may be a key factor in inflammatory processes in the brain, such as reactive gliosis.

A study of the conditions and mechanism of the diphenylamine reaction for the colorimetric estimation of deoxyribonucleic acid
TL;DR: The present study arose from the observation that a more intense colour was sometimes produced if, instead of being heated at 1000 for 10 min., the reaction mixture was allowed to stand overnight at room temperature.

Cell death : the significance of apoptosis
TL;DR: It has proved feasible to categorize most if not all dying cells into one or the other of two discrete and distinctive patterns of morphological change, which have, generally, been found to occur under disparate but individually characteristic circumstances.

Practical Flow Cytometry
TL;DR: Using Flow Cytometers: Applications, Extensions, and Alternatives as mentioned in this paper is an excellent overview of the history of the field of Flow Sorting, its applications, extensions, and alternatives.

Monoclonal antibody-mediated tumor regression by induction of apoptosis
B. C. Trauth,C. Klas,Anke M.J. Peters,Siegfried Matzku,Peter Möller,Werner Falk,Klaus-Michael Debatin,Peter H. Krammer +7 more
TL;DR: Histological thin sections of the regressing tumor showed that anti-APO-1 was able to induce apoptosis in vivo, suggesting induction of apoptosis as a consequence of a signal mediated through cell surface molecules like APO- 1 may be a useful therapeutic approach in treatment of malignancy.

Chromatin cleavage in apoptosis: association with condensed chromatin morphology and dependence on macromolecular synthesis.
TL;DR: The data confirm that the condensed chromatin which characterizes apoptosis morphologically consists of endogenously digested chromatin fragments, and provide support for the view that at least some cells enter apoptosis by a process dependent upon macromolecular synthesis.
