Engineering proteolytically-degradable artificial extracellular matrices

TL;DR: This review presents an overview on bioengineering approaches of integrating protease-sensitive motifs into hydrogels, for the creation of cell- responsive biomimetic scaffolding materials that degrade in response to their proteolytic microenvironment.
Journal ArticleDOI

Alginate-nanohydroxyapatite hydrogel system: Optimizing the formulation for enhanced bone regeneration.

TL;DR: The outcomes of this study indicate that nanohydroxyapatite concentration plays a major role in physic-chemical properties and biological response of the composite system and the optimization of the components ratio must be met to maximize bone tissue regeneration.

Improvement of the mechanical properties of chitosan‐alginate wound dressings containing silver through the addition of a biocompatible silicone rubber

TL;DR: In this paper, the silicone gel remained in the structure of the formulations even after successive washing steps and its inclusion in the membranes reduced their thickness and swelling in aqueous media, improving their homogeneity and flexibility.
Journal ArticleDOI

Encapsulation and controlled release of hydrophobic flavors using biopolymer-based microgel delivery systems: Sustained release of garlic flavor during simulated cooking.

TL;DR: Results suggest that biopolymer microgels may be useful for controlling flavor release during cooking, and flavor retention was improved when an optimum level of lipid droplets were included in themicrogels, which was attributed to their impact on flavor partitioning and microgel stability.
