TLDR
In this article, a hybrid experiment consisting of emulsion chambers, burst detectors and the Tibet-II air-shower array was carried out at Yangbajing (4300 m a.s.l., 606 g / cm 2 ) in Tibet to obtain the energy spectra of primary protons and heliums.

Measurements of the Cosmic Ray Composition with Air Shower Experiments

TL;DR: In this article, a review of air shower data related to the mass composition of cosmic rays above 10 15 eV is presented, and the analysis of these experimental results in terms of primary mass is highly susceptible to the theoretical uncertainties of hadronic interactions in air showers.

On the knee in the energy spectrum of cosmic rays

TL;DR: In this article, direct and indirect measurements of cosmic rays are reviewed, with emphasis given to the understanding of the knee in the energy spectrum, and the data are compared to contemporary models for the knee.

Constraints from the first LHC data on hadronic event generators for ultra-high energy cosmic-ray physics

TL;DR: The first Large Hadron Collider (LHC) data have extended by more than a factor of three the c.m. energies in which we have direct proton-proton measurements available to compare to hadronic models.

The All-Particle Spectrum of Primary Cosmic Rays in the Wide Energy Range from 1014 to 1017 eV Observed with the Tibet-III Air-Shower Array

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented an updated all-particle energy spectrum of primary cosmic rays in a wide range from 10 14 to 10 17 eVusing 5:5 ; 10 7 events collected from 2000 November through 2004 October by the Tibet-III air-shower array located 4300 m in altitude.

Extensive Air Showers and Hadronic Interactions at High Energy

TL;DR: In this article, the relation between extensive air showers and hadronic interactions at high energy was introduced and a detailed simulation of these particle showers is needed to reconstruct the properties of the primary particles.

Rate of energy gain and maximum energy in diffusive shock acceleration

TL;DR: In this article, the problem of diffusive shock acceleration of fast charged particles is reexamined with emphasis on the rate of energy gain, and the maximum energy which can be attained in a given circumstance.

On the knee in the energy spectrum of cosmic rays

TL;DR: In this paper, the knee in the all-particle energy spectrum is scrutinized with a phenomenological model, named polygonato model, linking results from direct and indirect measurements.
