TLDR
The book aims to instill in students an ability to think through biological research problems in such a way as to grasp the essentials of the experimental or analytical setup to know which types of statistical tests to apply in a given case and to carry out the computations required.
Abstract
This text develops the science of biometry from an elementary introduction up to the advanced methods necessary for biological research and for an understanding of the published literature. This text is aimed primarily at the academic biologist including general zoologists botanists microbiologists geneticists and physiologists in universities research institutes and museums. This book while furnishing ample directions for the analysis of experimental works also stresses the descriptive and analytical statistical study of biological phenomena. It is intended both as a text to accompany a lecture course and as a complete course for self-study. The book aims to instill in students an ability to think through biological research problems in such a way as to grasp the essentials of the experimental or analytical setup to know which types of statistical tests to apply in a given case and to carry out the computations required. Chapters cover biological data data handling descriptive statistics probability estimation and hupothesis testing analysis of variance linear regression correlation multiple and curvilinear regression analysis of frequencies and miscellaneous methods.

Forest biomass allometry in global land surface models

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the similarity between simulated biomass pools and real stands using allometric theory and found that the simulated pools largely do not conform to widely observed allometry, particularly for young stands.

Osmotic effectors in kidneys of xeric and mesic rodents: corticomedullary distributions and changes with water availability

TL;DR: Estimates of tissue concentrations suggest that total methylamines+polyols can account for intracellular osmotic balance in all species in antidiuresis and that sufficient concentrations of methyamines may be present to counteract perturbing effects of urea on proteins.

Resting metabolic rates in boid snakes: allometric relationships and temperature effects

TL;DR: Values of the adjusted mean Y, from covariance analysis, were significantly and positively correlated with mass, indicating that the mass coefficient increases with increasing mass.

Use of cover and the need to breathe: the effects of hypoxia on vulnerability of dwarf gouramis to predatory snakeheads.

TL;DR: The results indicate that dissolved oxygen concentration, which varies considerably in many fish habitats, can affect use of cover and risk of predation in fishes.

Role of hydraulic and chemical signals in leaves, stems and roots in the stomatal behaviour of olive trees under water stress and recovery conditions.

TL;DR: Results showed a strong hydraulic segmentation in olive plants, with higher hydraulic functioning losses in roots and leaves than in stems, and neither hydraulic nor non-hydraulic factors were able to explain the delay in the full recovery of gs after soil water availability was restored.
