Biometry: the principles and practice of statistics in biological research 2nd edition.
TLDR
The book aims to instill in students an ability to think through biological research problems in such a way as to grasp the essentials of the experimental or analytical setup to know which types of statistical tests to apply in a given case and to carry out the computations required.Abstract:
This text develops the science of biometry from an elementary introduction up to the advanced methods necessary for biological research and for an understanding of the published literature. This text is aimed primarily at the academic biologist including general zoologists botanists microbiologists geneticists and physiologists in universities research institutes and museums. This book while furnishing ample directions for the analysis of experimental works also stresses the descriptive and analytical statistical study of biological phenomena. It is intended both as a text to accompany a lecture course and as a complete course for self-study. The book aims to instill in students an ability to think through biological research problems in such a way as to grasp the essentials of the experimental or analytical setup to know which types of statistical tests to apply in a given case and to carry out the computations required. Chapters cover biological data data handling descriptive statistics probability estimation and hupothesis testing analysis of variance linear regression correlation multiple and curvilinear regression analysis of frequencies and miscellaneous methods.read more

Regional differentiation and sex-biased dispersal among populations of the horseshoe crab Limulus polyphemus
TL;DR: Within the continuum of isolation by distance and in the presence of male-biased dispersal, the clustering of specific collections on a tree of genetic distances and hierarchical gene diversity analyses demonstrate discrete regional units.

Structure of vertebrate genes: A statistical analysis implicating selection
TL;DR: Introns occur at nonrandom frequencies within the codon frame, in untranslated regions, and relative to the frameshift potential from exon movement or duplication, demonstrating that models of gene evolution must incorporate selective processes.

Breeding success of male brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) in the wild
TL;DR: While behavioural observations of salmonines suggests that reproduction is partitioned among males in a manner dependent upon body size and proximity to spawning females, the genetic evidence from this study suggests a more limited distribution of reproductive success in the field.

Parkinsonian deficits in sensory integration for postural control: temporal response to changes in visual input.

TL;DR: Results indicate a PD-associated deficit with the reorganization of sensory priorities for postural control, and may implicate the basal ganglia as being critical for integration of sensory information forPostural control.

Estuarine gillnet fishery catch rates decline during drought in eastern Australia
TL;DR: In this article, the commercial catch-per-unit-effort (CPUE) data from nine estuaries were related to hydrological variation in eastern Australia and relationships between drought declaration, rainfall, freshwater flow and fisheries catch rates were assessed from 1997 to 2007.
