TLDR
The book aims to instill in students an ability to think through biological research problems in such a way as to grasp the essentials of the experimental or analytical setup to know which types of statistical tests to apply in a given case and to carry out the computations required.Abstract:
This text develops the science of biometry from an elementary introduction up to the advanced methods necessary for biological research and for an understanding of the published literature. This text is aimed primarily at the academic biologist including general zoologists botanists microbiologists geneticists and physiologists in universities research institutes and museums. This book while furnishing ample directions for the analysis of experimental works also stresses the descriptive and analytical statistical study of biological phenomena. It is intended both as a text to accompany a lecture course and as a complete course for self-study. The book aims to instill in students an ability to think through biological research problems in such a way as to grasp the essentials of the experimental or analytical setup to know which types of statistical tests to apply in a given case and to carry out the computations required. Chapters cover biological data data handling descriptive statistics probability estimation and hupothesis testing analysis of variance linear regression correlation multiple and curvilinear regression analysis of frequencies and miscellaneous methods.read more

The cover of living and dead corals from airborne remote sensing
TL;DR: In this article, the Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager (Itres Research Ltd, Canada) was used to distinguish living and recently dead coral from the air to a depth of at least 4 m using first and fourth-order spectral derivatives between 562-580 nm.

Effects of interactions among genotypically diverse nestmates on task specialization by foraging honey bees (Apis mellifera)
TL;DR: Evidence is presented supporting the hypothesis that an individual's pattern of task specialization is affected not only by her own genotype, but, indirectly, by the genotypes of her nestmates, as well as suggesting that workers influence the behavior of their nestmates indirectly through their effects on the shared colony environment.

The influence of tidal forcing on groundwater flow and nutrient exchange in a salt marsh-dominated estuary
Alicia M. Wilson,James T. Morris +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used numerical models of tidally-driven groundwater flow to assess the effect of variations in tidal amplitude and mean water level (MWL) on porewater exchange between salt marshes and tidal creeks.

Larvicidal and repellent activity of Hyptis suaveolens (Lamiaceae) essential oil against the mosquito Aedes albopictus Skuse (Diptera: Culicidae)
Barbara Conti,Giovanni Benelli,Guido Flamini,Pier Luigi Cioni,Raffaele Profeti,Lucia Ceccarini,Mario Macchia,Angelo Canale +7 more
TL;DR: The results clearly evidenced that the larvicidal and repellent activity of H. suaveolens EO could be used for the development of new and safer products against A. albopictus.
