Engineering Gyroid-Structured Functional Materials via Templates Discovered in Nature and in the Lab.

TL;DR: State-of-the-art optical applications of GSFMs, including photonic bandgap materials, chiral devices, plasmonic materials, and matamaterials, are systematically discussed and existing challenges that may hinder the final application of G SFMS together with possible solutions are presented.

Cylinder Orientation and Shear Alignment in Thin Films of Polystyrene–Poly(n-hexyl methacrylate) Diblock Copolymers

TL;DR: In this article, a series of PS-PHMA diblocks of varying composition, all forming PS cylinders, are synthesized and their morphology studied as a function of film thickness in both nonsheared and shear-aligned films.

Photoluminescent Arrays of Nanopatterned Monolayer MoS2

TL;DR: The detailed atomic structure and nanoscale geometry of the nanopatterned 2D MoS2 showed features down to 4 nm with nonfaceted etching profiles defined by the block copolymer (BCP) mask.

Defect Annihilation Pathways in Directed Assembly of Lamellar Block Copolymer Thin Films.

TL;DR: This work examines the pathways for annihilation of defects in symmetric diblock copolymers in the context of directed assembly using patterned substrates and shows that multiple consecutive free energy barriers lead to effective kinetic barriers that are an order of magnitude larger than those originally reported in the literature for tightly bound dislocation pairs.

Ordered mesoporous molecular sieves synthesized by a liquid-crystal template mechanism

TL;DR: In this paper, the synthesis of mesoporous inorganic solids from calcination of aluminosilicate gels in the presence of surfactants is described, in which the silicate material forms inorganic walls between ordered surfactant micelles.

Block Copolymer Thermodynamics: Theory and Experiment

TL;DR: Block copolymers are macromolecules composed of sequences, or blocks, of chemically distinct repeat units that make possible the sequential addition of monomers to various carbanion-ter minated ("living") linear polymer chains.

Block Copolymers—Designer Soft Materials

TL;DR: The Knitting Pattern as mentioned in this paper is a block copolymer that was discovered by Reimund Stadler and his coworkers and reflects a delicate free-energy minimization that is common to all blockcopolymer materials.

Ultrahigh-Density Nanowire Arrays Grown in Self-Assembled Diblock Copolymer Templates

TL;DR: A simple, robust, chemical route to the fabrication of ultrahigh-density arrays of nanopores with high aspect ratios using the equilibrium self-assembled morphology of asymmetric diblock copolymers is shown.
