TLDR
The present study represents that the combination of HFD-fed and low-dose STZ-treated rat serves as an alternative animal model for type 2 diabetes simulating the human syndrome that is also suitable for testing anti-diabetic agents for the treatment of type 1 diabetes.

Evaluation of Medicago sativa L. sprouts as antihyperlipidemic and antihyperglycemic agent.

TL;DR: Investigation of the potential antihyperlipidemic and antihyperglycemic activity of M. sativa sprouts in streptozotocin induced diabetes via i.p. injection of STZ found ethyl acetate fraction retained the best activity (vs. metformin) as antihyper glycemic agent.

Root bark of Morus alba ameliorates the depressive-like behaviors in diabetic rats.

TL;DR: Investigation of the effect of root bark of Morus alba (RBM) on depressive-like behaviors in the diabetic rats established by a high fat diet and a low dose of streptozotocin showed that a 4-week administration of RBM significantly reversed the depressive- like behaviors.

GPR30 Attenuates Myocardial Fibrosis in Diabetic Ovariectomized Female Rats: Role of iNOS Signaling.

TL;DR: It is suggested that GPR30 activation inhibits MF in diabetic OVX female rats by suppressing cardiac iNOS activity and consequently NO levels, which may provide novel cardioprotection strategies for postmenopausal women, especially those with DM.

Anti-hypertensive, anti-diabetic, hypocholesterolemic and antioxidant properties of prickly pear nopalitos in type 2 diabetic rats fed a high-fat diet

TL;DR: Freeze-dried OFI nopalitos improves arterial blood pressure, glycemic control, metabolic pathway of cholesterol and redox status in type 2 diabetic (T2D) rats.

Renal distribution of ganglioside GM3 in rat models of types 1 and 2 diabetes

TL;DR: Taking into consideration increased tubular GM3 content in both types of diabetes, the role of GM3 in early pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy could be hypothesized.

PPAR-gamma: adipogenic regulator and thiazolidinedione receptor.

TL;DR: How advances in the understanding of nuclear receptor function, particularly the docking of cofactors in a ligand-dependent fashion, should lead to improved drugs that utilize the PPAR-gamma system for the treatment of insulin resistance is discussed.

Thiazolidinediones in the Treatment of Insulin Resistance and Type II Diabetes

TL;DR: Clinical studies in patients with type II diabetes, as well as other syndromes characterized by insulin resistance, have demonstrated that thiazolidinediones may represent a safe and effective new treatment.

A new rat model of type 2 diabetes: the fat-fed, streptozotocin-treated rat.

TL;DR: Fat-fed/STZ rats provide a novel animal model for type 2 diabetes, simulates the human syndrome, and is suitable for the testing of antidiabetic compounds.
