Journal ArticleDOI
Management of Multiple Sclerosis Relapses.
TL;DR: An overview of the clinical and pathologic features of multiple sclerosis relapses is provided and evidence-based approaches to their treatment is reviewed and the importance of recognizing mimics of MS relapses to reduce corticosteroid overuse and its attendant risks is highlighted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Peritrigonal and temporo-occipital heterotopia with corpus callosum and cerebellar dysgenesis
Tiziana Pisano,A. James Barkovich,Richard J. Leventer,Waney Squier,Ingrid E. Scheffer,Elena Parrini,Susan Blaser,Carla Marini,Stephen P. Robertson,Gaetano Tortorella,Felix Rosenow,Pierre Thomas,George McGillivray,Eva Andermann,Frederick Andermann,Samuel F. Berkovic,William B. Dobyns,Renzo Guerrini +17 more
TL;DR: A malformation complex in which PNH in the trigones and occipito-temporal horns is associated with hippocampal, corpus callosum, and cerebellar dysgenesis is delineated, distinct from classic PNH caused by FLNA mutations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chronic remitting‐relapsing experimental allergic encephalomyelitis induced in monkeys with homologous myelin basic protein
TL;DR: A chronic remitting‐relapsing form of experimental allergic encephalomyelitis has been produced in monkeys sensitized to homologous myelin basic protein in Freund's complete adjuvants by the technique of suboptimal treatment after the onset of disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of oral and intravenous methylprednisolone treatment on subsequent relapse rate in multiple sclerosis.
Basil Sharrack,Richard A. C. Hughes,Richard W Morris,S Soudain,O Wade-Jones,D Barnes,Peter Brown,T. C. Britton,D A Francis,G D Perkin,Peter Rudge,Michael Swash,H Katifi,Simon F. Farmer,J P Frankel +14 more
TL;DR: This trial did not show a statistically significant difference in relapse rate during the first two years following oral compared with intravenous methylprednisolone treatment, and the time to onset and the severity of the first relapse after treatment were similar in the two groups.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lymphocytes sensitised to basic encephalitogen in patients with multiple sclerosis unresponsive to steroid therapy
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that some patients with M.S. show a cell-mediated immune response to the antigen which induces experimental allergic encephalomyelitis, and this may lead to new ideas on the efficacy and desirability of indiscriminate steroid therapy for patients with multiple sclerosis.
