Disrupted amygdala-prefrontal functional connectivity in civilian women with posttraumatic stress disorder

TLDR
This is the first study to show that the amygdala response may be accompanied by disruption of an amygdala-vmPFC functional circuit that is hypothesized to be involved in prefrontal cortical regulation of amygdala responsivity.

Blood-derived deoxyribonucleic acid methylation clusters associate with adverse social exposures and endophenotypes of stress-related psychiatric illness in a trauma-exposed cohort of women

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the associations of childhood trauma burden (CTQ), adult trauma burden, low income, and low education with blood-derived 5mC clusters and variability in brain region measurements in the amygdala, hippocampus, and frontal cortex subregions.

Current Treatments of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder and Amygdala Ablation as a Potential Cutting-Edge Therapy in Its Refractory Cases

TL;DR: In this article , the use of extremely selective laser ablation of the amygdala-hippocampal unit as a successful surgical intervention for medically unresponsive PTSD and as a revolutionary solution and prospective cutting-edge therapy in the near future.

Neural correlates of PTSD in women with childhood sexual abuse with and without PTSD and response to paroxetine treatment: A placebo-controlled, double-blind trial

TL;DR: In this article , the authors assess neural correlates of personalized traumatic memories in women with childhood sexual abuse with and without PTSD, and assess response to treatment, and find that women with PTSD showed decreases in areas involved in the Default Mode Network (DMN), a network of brain areas usually active when the brain is at rest, hippocampus and visual processing areas with exposure to traumatic scripts at baseline while women without PTSD showed increased activation in superior frontal gyrus and other areas.

Lifetime Prevalence and Age-of-Onset Distributions of DSM-IV Disorders in the National Comorbidity Survey Replication

TL;DR: Lifetime prevalence estimates are higher in recent cohorts than in earlier cohorts and have fairly stable intercohort differences across the life course that vary in substantively plausible ways among sociodemographic subgroups.

Meta-analysis of risk factors for posttraumatic stress disorder in trauma-exposed adults.

TL;DR: The effect size of all the risk factors was modest, but factors operating during or after the trauma, such as trauma severity, lack of social support, and additional life stress, had somewhat stronger effects than pretrauma factors.

A new SPM toolbox for combining probabilistic cytoarchitectonic maps and functional imaging data

TL;DR: A new, MATLAB based toolbox for the SPM2 software package is introduced which enables the integration of probabilistic cytoarchitectonic maps and results of functional imaging studies and an easy-to-use tool for the integrated analysis of functional and anatomical data in a common reference space.

Deep brain stimulation for treatment-resistant depression.

TL;DR: It is suggested that disrupting focal pathological activity in limbic-cortical circuits using electrical stimulation of the subgenual cingulate white matter can effectively reverse symptoms in otherwise treatment-resistant depression.
