Disrupted amygdala-prefrontal functional connectivity in civilian women with posttraumatic stress disorder

TLDR
This is the first study to show that the amygdala response may be accompanied by disruption of an amygdala-vmPFC functional circuit that is hypothesized to be involved in prefrontal cortical regulation of amygdala responsivity.

Functional Neuroanatomy of Emotion and Its Regulation in PTSD.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that emotion dysregulation in PTSD arises from complications within a large neurocircuitry involving the amygdala, insula, hippocampus, anterior cingulate cortex, and prefrontal cortex, which further support the importance of studying emotion-regulation deficits in tandem with exaggerated symptom provocation in order to better understand the constellation of symptoms present in those with PTSD.

Stress and Bronchodilator Response in Children with Asthma

TL;DR: High child stress and an ADCYAP1R1 single-nucleotide polymorphism are associated with reduced BDR in children with asthma, likely caused by down-regulation of ADRB2 in highly stressed children.

Role of social cognition in post-traumatic stress disorder: A review and meta-analysis.

TL;DR: The literature on the interaction of genes and the social environment is reviewed, supporting the hypothesis that social cognitive deficits are a preexisting risk factor for PTSD and relevant neuroimaging findings suggest that alterations in social cognition affect the perception of threat cues in PTSD.

Default Mode Network Subsystems Are Differentially Disrupted in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

TL;DR: Results suggest that selective alterations in functional connectivity in the MTL subsystem of the default mode network in PTSD may be an important factor in PTSD pathology and symptomatology.

Concurrent Treatment of Substance Use and PTSD.

TL;DR: The findings from clinical trials targeting a reduction in SUD and PTSD symptoms simultaneously will be summarized to improve the knowledge base and subsequently enhance the ability to develop effective interventions for this complex comorbid condition.

Lifetime Prevalence and Age-of-Onset Distributions of DSM-IV Disorders in the National Comorbidity Survey Replication

TL;DR: Lifetime prevalence estimates are higher in recent cohorts than in earlier cohorts and have fairly stable intercohort differences across the life course that vary in substantively plausible ways among sociodemographic subgroups.
Journal ArticleDOI

Meta-analysis of risk factors for posttraumatic stress disorder in trauma-exposed adults.

TL;DR: The effect size of all the risk factors was modest, but factors operating during or after the trauma, such as trauma severity, lack of social support, and additional life stress, had somewhat stronger effects than pretrauma factors.

A new SPM toolbox for combining probabilistic cytoarchitectonic maps and functional imaging data

TL;DR: A new, MATLAB based toolbox for the SPM2 software package is introduced which enables the integration of probabilistic cytoarchitectonic maps and results of functional imaging studies and an easy-to-use tool for the integrated analysis of functional and anatomical data in a common reference space.

Deep brain stimulation for treatment-resistant depression.

TL;DR: It is suggested that disrupting focal pathological activity in limbic-cortical circuits using electrical stimulation of the subgenual cingulate white matter can effectively reverse symptoms in otherwise treatment-resistant depression.
