In situ evolution of functional groups in char during cellulose pyrolysis under the catalysis of KCl and CaCl2
TL;DR: In this paper, a combination of in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) spectroscopy, perturbation-correlation moving-window 2D-COS and PCMW2D was used to reveal the catalytic mechanism of KCl and CaCl2 on cellulose char evolution during slow pyrolysis.

Influence of reaction atmosphere (N2, CO, CO2 and H2) on ZSM-5 catalyzed microwave-induced fast pyrolysis of medicinal herb residue for biofuel production
Bo Zhang,Jing Zhang +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of reaction atmosphere on pyrolytic product yields and oil chemical compositions was explored and it was shown that CO atmosphere leads to the lowest total liquid and oil fraction yields and the highest water yield.

Strengthened dewaterability of coke-oven plant oily sludge by altering extracellular organics using Fe(II)-activated persulfate oxidation.
Guangyin Zhen,Yujie Tan,Taipu Wu,Wang Jianhui,Xueqin Lu,Youcai Zhao,Xuefeng Zhu,Jing Niu,Jianying Xiong +8 more
TL;DR: Analysis via scanning electron microscopy and thermogravimetric-Fourier transform infrared spectrometry revealed that Fe2+/S2O82- oxidation destroyed the water-oil-gel-like structure of the oily sludge, thereby accelerating the separation of solids and water while reducing CO2 emissions during the subsequent pyrolysis.

Features of promising technologies for pretreatment of lignocellulosic biomass.
Nathan S. Mosier,Charles E. Wyman,Bruce E. Dale,Richard T. Elander,Y. Y. Lee,Mark T. Holtzapple,Michael R. Ladisch +6 more
TL;DR: This paper reviews process parameters and their fundamental modes of action for promising pretreatment methods and concludes that pretreatment processing conditions must be tailored to the specific chemical and structural composition of the various, and variable, sources of lignocellulosic biomass.
