Journal ArticleDOI
Sex differences in hospital mortality in adults with congenital heart disease: the impact of reproductive health.
A. Carla Zomer,Raluca Ionescu-Ittu,Ilonca Vaartjes,Louise Pilote,Andrew S. Mackie,Judith Therrien,Maurice M. Langemeijer,Diederick E. Grobbee,Barbara J.M. Mulder,Ariane Marelli +9 more
TL;DR: A protective effect of sex on in-hospital mortality in women with CHD of reproductive age that did not correlate with increased medical surveillance is demonstrated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma-2 P12A polymorphism and risk of acute myocardial infarction, coronary heart disease and ischemic stroke: a case-cohort study and meta-analyses.
Mohammad Hadi Zafarmand,Yvonne T. van der Schouw,Diederick E. Grobbee,Peter W. de Leeuw,Michiel L. Bots +4 more
TL;DR: The study in healthy Dutch women in combination with the meta-analyses of previous reports does not provide support for a role of P12A polymorphism in PPARG gene in MI and CHD risk and shows that the polymorphism has no association with IS risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Estimation of cardiovascular risk: a comparison between the Framingham and the SCORE model in people under 60 years of age.
Tjarda Scheltens,W. M. Monique Verschuren,Hendriek C. Boshuizen,Arno W. Hoes,Nicolaas P.A. Zuithoff,Michiel L. Bots,Diederick E. Grobbee +6 more
TL;DR: It is shown that both the SCORE and the Framingham model function have a good discriminative ability but are insufficient in predicting absolute risks.
Journal ArticleDOI
High blood-pressure and the incidence of non-insulin-dependent diabetes-mellitus - findings in a 11.5 year follow-up-study in the netherlands
Ronald P. Stolk,I. P. van Splunder,Jan S. A. G. Schouten,Jacqueline C.M. Witteman,Albert Hofman,Diederick E. Grobbee +5 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that elevated blood pressure is a risk for the development of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), which supports the view that NIDDM and hypertension may have a similar origin.
Journal ArticleDOI
Excess early postnatal weight gain leads to thicker and stiffer arteries in young children.
Annemieke M. V. Evelein,Frank L.J. Visseren,Cornelis K. van der Ent,Diederick E. Grobbee,Cuno S. P. M. Uiterwaal +4 more
TL;DR: Excess early postnatal weight gain leads to vascular changes already in early childhood, characterized by thicker arterial walls, which supports the view that cardiovascular disease risk is associated with growth pattern early in life.
