Journal ArticleDOI

The epidemiology, pathogenesis, transmission, diagnosis, and management of multidrug-resistant, extensively drug-resistant, and incurable tuberculosis

TL;DR: Several lines of evidence suggest that alternative mechanisms-including pharmacokinetic variability, induction of efflux pumps that transport the drug out of cells, and suboptimal drug penetration into tuberculosis lesions-are likely crucial to the pathogenesis of drug-resistant tuberculosis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Serum Drug Concentrations Predictive of Pulmonary Tuberculosis Outcomes

TL;DR: Low drug AUCs are predictive of clinical outcomes in tuberculosis patients, and low rifampin and isoniazid peak and AUC concentrations preceded all cases of acquired drug resistance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Global tuberculosis drug development pipeline: the need and the reality

TL;DR: To eliminate tuberculosis as a public health concern by 2050, all responsible parties need to work together to strengthen the global antituberculosis drug pipeline and support the development of new antituber tuberculosis drug regimens.
Journal ArticleDOI

Charles N. Rotimi, +245 more
- 20 Jun 2014 -
TL;DR: If the dearth of genomics research involving Africans persists, the potential health and economic benefits emanating from genomic science may elude an entire continent.
