Design concepts for the Cherenkov Telescope Array CTA: An advanced facility for ground-based high-energy gamma-ray astronomy

Marcos Daniel Actis, +685 more
TL;DR: The ground-based gamma-ray astronomy has had a major breakthrough with the impressive results obtained using systems of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes as mentioned in this paper, which is an international initiative to build the next generation instrument, with a factor of 5-10 improvement in sensitivity in the 100 GeV-10 TeV range and the extension to energies well below 100GeV and above 100 TeV.
Journal ArticleDOI

The X-Ray Observatory Suzaku

Kazuhisa Mitsuda, +142 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors summarized the spacecraft, in-orbit performance, operations, and data processing that are related to observations of the Suzaku X-ray observatory, including high-sensitivity wide-band Xray spectroscopy.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Nature of Ultraluminous Compact X-Ray Sources in Nearby Spiral Galaxies

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors make use of the ASCA spectra of seven ultraluminous compact X-ray sources in nearby spiral galaxies: M33 X-8, M81 X-6, IC 342 source 1, Dwingeloo 1 X-1, NGC 1313 source B, and two sources in NGC 4565.
